Fryette D60M: A Slept On Monster

I don't really see a lot of folk showing this amp much love. It's one of my favorites and incredibly versatile. I think it really shines in the high gain realm, with only a handful of amps in FAS Land that are in the same category as it is. It has a unique voicing and feel to it that makes it a joy to play and hear. Tight as you want it to be, liquid but articulate leads, percussive, and harmonically rich. It's at home with everything from EVH to Dokken to Necrophagist.

I have attached a preset that gets you headed in the right direction if you are interested in exploring it. Out 1 is to my FRFR system, and Out 3 is to my Fryette 2/90/2 power amp with Mesa OS 412 and Engl Pro 212 Vert cabs.

I recently auditioned every amp to find a high gain tone that felt right. I noticed something special with this one, and need to revisit. Thanks for the preset! And reminding me of the axe 2 days running into a VHT 2/50/2:relieved:

Could it be because of the change from the MKI to the MKII version in firmware 24.04? haha
Well, I can name quite a few people who loved this model, right @Paul Bradshaw? I have a VHT Pitbull 100CL and I can confirm that the D60 model in Fractal had something really special, one of my favorites.

But after the update... (I still don’t understand why the MKI version was removed...it makes no sense), the model lost everything I liked: that hollow/dry/percussive thing is completely gone. Since then, it sounds more generic with the classic midrange-focused Fractal tone. Really a shame. I honestly don’t remember ever using it again after that.

There was even a thread asking about the possibility of bringing the MKI model back but… as usual, we were ignored haha
If you can, give that version a try and let me know. :) Huge difference.

29 has really opened doors for considerably more amps for me. Some that I have found too shrill or boomy are now very usable. It has also helped that dynacabs rule. They rule earth. I wish there were more dynacab offerings for cab lab.

yeah the 'initial' D60 was my go to amp for ages until it got updated to MkII specs,
as Eloy said the hollow/dry/percussive style thing changed basically, without making certain changes to the amp block itself, it's just not the same anymore

I started a thread to bring back the MKI model alongside the MKII model as a request:

https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/vht-fryette-d60-mk1-model-alongside-mk2.203727/

maybe someday it'll be in there again, i still have a mk1 D60 at home that i really love, I don't get to play it enough to be fair
i've since moved to the Spawn OD2-1 to get a similar vibe, it's not quite the same, but i get the same sort of response i like from it

yea like @Paul Bradshaw i liked the initial iteration as well. the mkII changed alot and fast high fret leads/passes sound almost as if you have a fuzz on. totally contrary to how the first amp felt like.
my band's first album was made with this amp on all guitars (lightly blended with the prs archean-quad tracking)

Great tone brother!

I recently made a patch with this since my friend got a sig X and it sounded amazing. The key for me to get it to sound good with high gain was using the klon of all things. Its really good. I really wish we could get the UL or even the Pitbull. More fryette the better.
