FRFR Speakers - Yamaha, JBL, etc....

I bought a pair of DRX10's

I will most likely have them both behind me, next to the drummer.

Do most of you guys/gals, just place them on the ground, Tripod Stands, amp combo stands, milk crates, etc....

Are you using them as your backline?

People do various combinations of what you listed in that case.

Yes, I will send a stereo signal from my AX8

My two concerns are, they might be too "boomy" on the floor, and they will look out of place on tripod stands.

There is a monitor switch setting on the back which should eliminate the boom. Or if on tripod switch to FOH (I think that’s the one) it adds the lower thump back in.

I use mine on the ground with it on the monitor setting and it is tight and sounds splendid.

I have mine on speaker stands. I have the Contour OFF and the Roll-off at -100Hz. I set the volume around 11:30 or 12 o'clock position and my AX8 main output varies between 70% and 80% depending on the venue. They sound great.

There is no wrong way to go here, it's all personal preference.
I prefer putting mine on a case (if I have one behind me), if not, a tripod.
I want it chest level. Can hear it better.

I agree, it's not normal to see a tripod on stage, but it likely only looks odd to musicians.
The people in the crowd don't care what is on stage. They should be looking at you.

The new mackie thumps that were just released look nice. I wonder how they sound compared to my EVzlx 12p? anyone know?

What about these 'look nice'?

The older Thumps are VERY scooped in the mids and are targeted at beginner DJs. They are missing all mid clarity where guitars live in the mix. Best quote I heard on the Thumps from a pro audio engineer - "Mackie Thumps made the guitars disappear while listening to Guns N Roses Appetite album, and that is a really hard thing to do"

The new Thumps look the same but with more low end (woof).

I have no faith that these would be a good fit for the Axe.....but this is pure speculation as I have not heard the new ones.

I think I will find something that will raise both speakers of the floor. Something nicer than a milk crate or chair.

The Atomic CLR's have a low cut switch which cuts everything under 120 hz.

Mine actually falls off the milk crate when I have it angled up like a monitor. But it does sound different and is easier to tame when it's elevated, IMO. Either way the low cut feature makes it easy to dial out any boominess you get from the floor or walls. The dispersion is a little tighter than my Xitone, which is all I have to compare to. But if you're using it behind you with some space you can crank it loud and dispersion isn't as much as a problem. They are loud speakers for sure.
