FM9-Edit says "disconnected" (even though it is connected)

Hello, my FM-9 edit has been working perfectly with my desktop pc, but now that the pc has gone out of order, I downloaded FM-9 edit to my laptop (running Windows 11), but now FM-9 edit just says "disconnected!" no matter what I do. I've tried with many different USB cables (both long ones and short ones), turning both the FM9 and the laptop on and off, taking the USB cables in and out etc., but nothing happens..
Can anyone help - or give an explanation for this behaviour..?

Replying to myself here..: Problem fixed, my laptop didn't have the required USB drivers, now it has :)
And so it goes. Many have forgotten about the drivers. You're in good company. :)

It's good to see you back.

This happens on my MacBook Pro as well. FM9-Edit loses connection and I either have to un/replug the USB cable or power cycle the FM9T to restore connectivity.

Same here. Re-plugging doesn't work, at least not on the MacBook site. I have to restart the FM9. It happens when I leave the FM9 edit open for some time.

when the editors don't seem to be connected BUT you're sure you have drivers installed...
It's usually because you need to go into the Settings and re-select the device under General ->Ports->Input & Output

Found a possible solution for MacBooks: there is an app called amphetamine which just runs in the background when you open it, keeping the MacBook ports open/no sleep. Must be based on the caffeinate command. Will try it out.

It works pretty well, but turning off the Mac's "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" setting in System Settings… > Energy on the desktop units or in System Settings… > Battery > Options… on laptops, will work even better because you don't have to remember to launch Amphetamine.

On a laptop it has options for "Always", "Only on Battery", "Only on Power Adapter" and "Never". I use "Only on Battery" because I never use my MacBook to connect to the modeler without the power adapter.

My MacBook already had those settings and it still seems to have shut off the USB ports/made sleepy. As you said- I forgot to run that little meth app and had to reboot the FM9, and I'm on the latest firmware from a few weeks ago. Oh well. Always something.

I ran into a situation a couple weeks ago where, after updating macOS on my iMac Pro, my FM3 started dropping off after the Mac went to sleep. And, even though I'd turned off that ability, aaaand the setting showed it was turned off, the behavior told me the Mac wasn't honoring it.

I toggled the setting on and off again, and the FM3 has been fine since. Again.
