Can you find the reference on that? I just scanned that release thread and didn't see anything. Is there any place else it's been mentioned?

I kinda snuck this in under the radar. It was discussed way back, not sure when at this point. Greg is right, it improves the loading efficiency of the preset. The preset doesn't need to be updated to the currently installed firmware version on every load.

Thanks for the clarification. I saw some initial discussion in the FW release thread, but then it kind of died out. I could've sworn there was a difference to a Leon Todd preset I had been using though. The gain just seemed off and after it seemed fine. Maybe just my ears!

It’s kinda explainable with extra (dynacab) functionality, but do your FM3’s also take quite some extra time to boot up? I didn’t time it before, but it feels quite substantial
 
I just updated the presets on mine as well. Took about 20 minutes and then it froze. Restarted it and it was only 2 minutes to complete as it finished where it left off.

So great to have the Dana cabs in the FM3 now!

When I was upgrading on the first attempt I was watching the progress and it sort of "ground to a halt". You could see it was gradually taking longer and longer with each preset until it stalled. After the reboot it went very smoothly to the end.

"README Firmware Update Guide" is not explaining the steps for installing the dyna-cabs and the firmware (the order of installing both sysex files). So after reading, I didn't know if I have to install first the firmware or the dynacab file.

"README DynaCab Installation Guide" explains the order step by step very well:

1. Ensure that Fractal-Bot is the latest version.
2. Extract the firmware and Dyna-Cab .syx files from the zip archive.
3. Launch Fractal-Bot.
4. Install the firmware first using the firmware image extracted in Step 2 following the instructions in the Firmware Update Guide.
5. After rebooting you may see a warning that the Dyna-Cab data is not installed or the wrong version. If so, press Exit.
6. Install the Dyna-Cab data using the data image extracted in Step 2. Drag-and-drop the .syx file onto Fractal-Bot as you would a firmware image. Send the data. Reboot when instructed.

Maybe you could add in the FAQ section of the "README Firmware Update Guide" the question "Do I have to install first the dyna-cabs or the firmware sysex file?"

Hi all

How does the above square with @Greg Ferguson's recent advice to do everything firmware update related in FM3 edit, and not use the standalone Fractal Bot? 😀

Fractal Bot handles the upgrade just fine. They added UI to handle the fact the firmware has DynaCabs that go along with it. It should prompt you to upgrade once you select your unit type in FM3.

In either case you have to use Fractal-Bot, it's just there's a copy pre-installed/embedded in the Tools menu in Edit for convenience, so we don't have to leave Edit and launch the standalone version. Both versions of Fractal-Bot can handle firmware updates, and can install the Dyna-Cabs.

The standalone version of Fractal-Bot has some additional "hidden" capabilities that are not needed except in rare occasions.

Having both versions on the machine invites the conflict between Edit and the standalone Fractal-Bot when both are both trying to talk to the modeler at the same time and they argue, with Fractal-Bot usually filling the screen with alerts saying it can't connect.

If you only have Edit, and use the embedded version you won't have that problem. If, in the rare occasion, you need the standalone version, support will say.

That's why I recommend not installing the standalone version, it's the simple way to avoid freaking out when the screen is filling faster than we can react.
 
I’m on board with FW7.0. Everything went smoothly and now my boot time is slightly longer… totally worth it, Dynacabs sound amazing and given a new layer of insanity to the simulated amp + cab. It’s fun and useful. Thanks FAS!!
