FM3 Firmware Version 3.03 beta 1

I would assume it (Cygnus) will be in beta first?
I’m even holding off on Ares 3.03 beta as I’ve heard reports that output 2 doesn’t always work?
There's a couple scenarios that could take place, I think. 1. They release 3.03 as a full release with bug fixes for the Output 2 and other issues, then release a beta of Cygnus a (hopefully) short time later or 2. They roll Cygnus into what's already in place with the 3.03 beta and release it as a new beta.

I work on High volume Medical Laboratory automation and analyzers. By High Volume I mean 20,000 samples a day with multiple tests run on each sample at one particular account.
We have hardware and software upgrades all the time. Especially on new products.
Our software is never released with the term “Beta” on it. But my coworker and I think of it as Beta (or even “Vapor ware”) when it‘s first released.
The issue we run into is that we get pressure to install the new software soon after its released because we’re at a “high profile account”. But we don’t want to induce issues that cause our customers (the Lab) and ourselves greaf. So we hold off as long as we can get away with to see if anyone else is having major issues before installing it.
I’m new to Fractal Land (and modeling) but I‘m cautious about installing anything Beta as I don’t need the potential hassle involved with glitches...

So far, I've had no issues with the 3.03 beeeta. I'm also not gigging at the moment so stability isn't too much of a concern for me. If something does go wrong, I can always roll back to 3.02 or use my HX Stomp.

Unless you're earning mega bucks with a modeler then your use of it isn't high pressure, and a problem with a beta version would be an annoyance that could be fixed in ten minutes or less by rolling back to the previous version. The use of beta on the modeler is nothing in comparison with the jobs many of us had or have in our daily lives managing big projects or wrangling code; We laugh at the challenge.

Fractal is a small company, but I believe they're as good of programmers and engineers as I've ever seen, because they have passion and major experience. Dig through the catacombs and notice how long their members have been here, especially those who poke their heads into the forms. They're veterans and know their system.

Alpha, beta, "golden" or release-candidate are standard terms in development. Every company writing software has to follow some sort of revision and release process and odds are really good they'll be those terms. They're not about to let general public in on anything before a public-beta, which, at that point, they need multiple eyes on the product to ferret out the bugs they've missed during the alpha and private-beta phases. So, public-beta is pretty safe - it won't eat your lunch or steal your good liquor.

If you don't feel safe, don't jump into the pool, wait for the final-beta or the general release. Nobody pressures anyone to partake, and it's a disservice to Fractal for those who are not capable or unwilling to actually play with it, because they muddy the water with comments and unresearched "issues" that were previously reported multiple times and that turned out to be user error because they didn't read the release notes or closely track the thread.

It's a fun trip helping debug this stuff, and everyone is welcome, at least until they prove they can't hang with the old farts on the porch. :-)

i imagine it can't be too much longer before the fm3 cygnus drop. I just appreciate the effort and work the folks at FAS are doing for us. That is how you get and keep happy customers for life! And it will be worth the wait...jumped on the fractal train and i ain't looking back :guitar:

I agree completely. It shows when a company cares about its products and its customers. I have had my FM3 for two months and I am in love. The obvious attention to details as well as the constant efforts to improve the product are a big part of my satisfaction. FAS has definitely won me over.

As a long time Fractal user, I love the constant strive for better sound but I wish they also put that much effort in the user interface on the hardware as there's a ton of fairly easy things to fix and improve that would make using the unit without Axe-Edit/FM3-Edit significantly better.

Cygnus i think you are still a week out they have to first port the whole
thing , who know Cygnus might not even be a beta for FM3 if it’s completed and stable in Ax3
we might just see a release version
One of the admins (can't remember whom) posted Cygnus was being ported to FM3 weeks ago. No one knows when they'll release it though...

The Out 2 issue and the scribble strip problems are keeping me from updating. I'm just hoping for soon, so I can dial stuff in before our summer shows! Keeping my fingers crossed!

That's interesting. I haven't thought about the hardware interface that much. I do find it easier to use than even the HX Stomp, but my experience is still limited.

I have the full Helix Floor for comparison and it's a helluva lot faster and more intuitive to operate than the FM3. I've already posted a bunch of things on the wishlist and I hope some of them get implemented when they get the bigger things like 3.03 and the Cygnus update out of the way.

I have heard that from several people. Personally, I felt immediately more comfortable with the FM3 than with Line6, but I am probably in the minority.
