FM3 Firmware Version 11.0

Version 11.01 is in private beta. We expect to release it soon. It got delayed due to the addition of the new Dyna-Cabs which presented a challenge for the FM-3 due to limited non-volatile memory.

Why is everyone so g*ddamn negative on this forum lately? FFS, no one gives you more free updates than we do. Try being a little appreciative of all the work that goes into these products.
Thanks Cliff. Waiting patiently for the FM9 beta 👍

Hey guys, need some help, just received the FM3, plug it in, it says update from 7.00 - 11.00 did that, then I received the Dyna cab error message, try to down load the Dyna Cab 1.06 file, now I get Incorrect Dyna Cab file, looking for some help.

The Dyna-Cab file should be 1.07. It's in the zip file attached to the first post of this thread.

I am beyond appreciative of all that you guys do. I tell every single musician (who cares to listen) how incredible my FM3 has been. Hoping to have convinced a few of them to make a purchase.

When I first got the FM3 around FW8 it was great... but it's come soo far, and become truly incredible with recent updates. It's unheard of for a company these days to offer soo much. I will never not have a Fractal of some sort in my life.

People are becoming more and more entitled & narcissistic as time goes on, probably thanks to social media. Truly sad to see. Please don't let a few jerks sour you, you have MANY fans.

Are there any examples of devices where firmware updates aren’t free? Does Line 6 charge for updates? Or anyone really?

Not charging for firmware updates seems to be a normal industry practice to me. Major updates for software usually come with a price tag, but pure software projects can’t live only on new customers, so they have to get revenue somewhere. Device manufacturers update actual devices and sell them, that’s how they make money.

And if you want to sell them at premium prices, you need to provide support including updates, and also make sure your devices don’t depreciate too quickly, otherwise it will be more difficult to charge those higher prices. So it’s a rather common sense approach, not some unusual benevolence.
I really credit Fractal Audio for the current state where there is some amount of free updates in most digital guitar products products. I think before Fractal Audio, firmware updates were generally uncommon and manufacturers provided only minor fixes once or twice in the life of a product. Line6 had model packs where you could buy additional models but that was pretty much it.

In Fractal world, I think it is important (as a buyer) to realize that the premium Fractal experience (and the most "Fractal" experience) is found on the Axe-FX line. The other products like the FM3 deliver a lot of the goodies but they have less frequent updates. I reconciled this for myself by realizing that the Axe-FX is "the wizard's playground" and if you want the most Fractal, that's what you have to buy. I'm not sure what the best way to communicate this information would be from the company's standpoint.

I do think the FM3 (and FM9) still end up with more useful updates than competing products since they get most of what the Axe-FX products get, they just get packed into less frequent updates. Line6 and Kemper offer updates for a lot of years but at least off the top of my head I would be challenged to think they have anything like as many useful things added over time. Fractal still leads there, if I'm not mistaken.

I don't disagree with the point that a lot of people buy Fractal Audio products because of the reputation for ongoing support through updates. FA is well known for that.

Have you tried going back to FW versions where you've said the VC worked fine for you before?
Personally I haven’t, but I’ve been really tempted (including buying a Digitech Drop). Right now VC is unusable, and I’ve noticed that all Pitch Block models have significantly worsened since at least the last couple of FWs.

I just played a gig where I used the VC on every preset... from minus 3 to plus 2

I need to see what FW I'm running on my FM3. I used the VC down a whole step (drop C# physical tuning down to drop B via VC) and it worked great last week.

I'm starting to think it's my problem... I hear plenty of wobbles and inaccuracies, and there's higher latency even at -1 or -2. I remember a time when people started saying it wasn't on par with the FX3, but it was good enough to make them sell their Drop, and they were right, I don't know what happened then.

TBF; I was running a gained up Rectifier Red preset playing Korn songs. So not exactly a subtle, clear guitar tone where problems would be exposed due to a lack of gain.

Also; I was expecting this whole sort of "oh god the latency" and/or "oh god; the warble" and/or "oh good; the advanced settings!" but got none of that. Continuous refinement of it would be great and always welcome but it worked quite nicely just setting it stock (other than choosing input 1 as the source) \m/

Dunno about latency, it never bothered me with the VC. The warble depends on notes you play, it may be fine with some chords and horrible with others.

I was on 9.01 loved it totally skipped 10. then did the 11 sounds great seems the same maybe a little better. I only did it because when on tour which is like 4 to 5 months a year now the band I'm playing for uses 5 tunings live dropf and all in-between to drop a so figured id see if the pitch follower was actually better well I can't talk its always been awesome so if its better then its still awesome
i love the firmware updates, truly I do, but I gotta be honest, every single firmware update, I'm like, "it sounded amazing before! " they always seem to pull a rabbit out of the hat.. a musically superior rabbit I should add! I'll get around to updating to 11 in due course!
