FM3 FAQ

Hi, can anyone tell me how to calibrate the expression pedal on FM3. I have a Zoom pedal. In the utilities menu the indicator tells me that the end of run is at 25% and the maximum opening is at 96%. There is a way to properly calibrate these values. Thank you

from gptchat,
To calibrate an expression pedal for your Fractal FM9, follow these steps:

Access the FM9 Menu:
Turn on your FM9 and navigate to the menu or settings where you can configure your expression pedal.
Select the Expression Pedal:
Find the option to set up or calibrate your expression pedal. This might be labeled as “Pedal Calibration” or something similar.
Choose the Correct Pedal:
If you’re using the FM9 directly, select the expression pedal you want to calibrate (e.g., Pedal 1 or Pedal 2).
Perform the Calibration:
Continuously sweep the pedal from heel to toe (i.e., fully pressed down to fully raised).
Observe the FM9’s user interface (UI) to see if the pedal is sweeping through the full range.
Ensure that the pedal covers the entire range smoothly.
Check the Results:
If the pedal is only sweeping through a limited range (e.g., 0-20%), there might be an issue.
Verify that you’re using a TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) cable for the expression pedal connection.
Clean the expression pedal input jack and the pedal’s potentiometer with contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.
Consider updating your FM9 firmware to the latest version (if not already done).
Test Again:
After cleaning and updating, repeat the calibration process.
Ensure that the pedal now sweeps through the full range.
Remember to follow the specific instructions in your FM9 manual for accurate calibration. If you encounter any further issues, consider reaching out to Fractal Audio support or consulting the FM9 community for additional troubleshooting tips. 🎛️🎸

hi all!

fm3 user from vienna, austria here.
my idea for my new bass live rig would be to give our FOH engeneer 2 different signals. i want to give him just the basic "clean" DI signal with one output & then my amp simulation & "wet" rig with the other output. so that he can blend those 2 sounds together however he wants to balance them.
i have some trouble building the following (must be possible somehow?):

OUTPUT 1: sending my ampeg simulation with all fx to let's say output 1.
OUTPUT 2: sending just the clean DI signal (with some compression and EQ) to let's say output 2.

it just doesnt seem to work. i thought it should work like this:

but i don't hear sound on the right side...

can someone help here?
would be much appreciated.

best,
max

just to rule out the simplest explanation for no signal from out 2.. did you turn the output 2 knob up? :)

Can someone explain what this means....

"...Also, keep in mind that the Amp and Cab Blocks each have 4 channels per-preset,.."

This excerpt was taken from the question, "How many Amps, Cabs, etc. can I have in each FM3 preset?"

What does that mean? Does this mean that each amp block can hold 4 different "settings"? So for instance, one amp block could have a clean tone, edge of breakup tone, crunch tone and lead tone...all on one preset and one block? Then in use, you'd just call up the specific channel you want?

How am I doing here or am I just making it up?

You have that exactly right!

Each scene remembers which blocks are enabled, and which channels they're each assigned to, do that's often all you need.

You can also have switches change block channels directly.

Welcome aboard!

Ok awesome. Thank you Dave, and thank you for the welcome wish...

I am very familiar with the Helix platform. I've had the HX Somp XL for years. I added a ToneX last year and placed in the Stomp's loops and nowadays I almost exclusively us ToneX amp captures coupled with the Line 6 effects. But, I'm not inspired by a lot of the modulations and delays. In fact I added the TV X3 Plethora just to try to bolster the effects options. In general I'm not all that happy with the overdrives and pretty much any of the distortion models.

So I've been looking for greener grass.

After using captures and getting a feel of that world, I've come to the conclusion that I prefer amp modeling over amp captures, not because they sound better, but because the models also offer some sense of the user experience of the actual amp. A Vox AC30 capture doesn't have a "Cut" knob to manipulate. The Helix and Fractal do....I think that aspect makes things a bit more enjoyable. AND, I think the Fractal's effects in particular the modulations sound better than Line 6 modulations. I don't know for sure because you need to hear it coming out of your own speakers in your own room off you own guitar to really know....so....I think I need to pull the FM3 trigger!!

Happy Holidays!!

Not only this, but your clean can be a Fender, your edge of breakup can be a Dumble, your crunch can be a Plexi, and your lead can be a 5150. The Cab block can also hold a four different "Cabs" which can be mixed and matched as you see fit.

All blocks have four channels, not just the amp and cab blocks.

HOLY CRAP! Really!
So that's quite different.

The FM9 can have two amps going at the same time, but the FM3 can only do one at a time, but you are NOT limited to only one amp model. That's pretty awesome.

I can do that with my Stomp, but each amp take up another block so I tend to not do that too much.

Sean that's great help.

Can anyone point me to an official Fractal list of all amp models, cabs, modulations, delays, reverbs, filters and all the other stuff in the box? I found a wiki, but I cannot locate a Fractal-procuded list of their stuff. That seems very odd to be honest. Line 6 is very proud of their site that shows everything under the hood.

I'm really curious about the modulations included. What are all those pedal models based on??

Can anyone direct me to that site or confirm that it doesn't exist?

Thx!!

You can find all in the wiki + @yek wonderful guides + official site.
