I've recently started playing violin through my FM9. I bought a 5-string violin, which means it plays in the viola register also, but the best part is, a viola dropped down an octave "is" a cello. Add to that a cello-reverberant IR mixed at 50%, and it's very nice. A recent recording (I have nowhere near the talent she has) - mostly cello with a switch to violin for a bit:

Yes. You can see it in several videos, both with Zimmer and the Aristocrats, and he talks about it…

Are you referring to the video in the OP? I believe it's a Yamaha electric cello - it certainly looks like the cello, not any of their bass models: https://ca.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/strings/silent_series/index.html The scrolls are very different, as well as the wings.

The first note she plays is consistent with cello tuning (a low D on the C string).

You are right, i was confused because the Instrument looks so tall in the video near her standing and the headstock looks like a classical bass!
