Fractal Fanatic
Just wondering what the best thing to do to keep my computer free from files not needed after upgrades to
Axe-Fx II XL+, Fractal Bot, Axe-Edit, and the same for AX8 & Edit?

Should I delete any old files? Please advise.

I'm not sure if most people keep a repository of older Axe FX related files, but I do. I've never found myself loading a really old firmware version, however I do have an Axe FX folder with several sub-folders labeled things like 'Firmware', 'Presets', 'Impulse Responses', 'Misc Files', and 'Backups'. In your case, I'd probably suggest keeping a backup and presets folder, and possibly a folder for impulse responses you've purchased, assuming you have any. At the very least I'd create a backups folder and make a complete backup of your Axe FX using Fractal Bot. You never know when you might need it.

I hear ya, I wasn't sure what most people were doing.
I figured as the firmware goes forward there wouldn't be much need to go back to the old stuff.
I do agree on keeping IR's and files that were purchased backed up.

Use the same rule I use for everything. If I haven't used it in a year it's gone.

I keep everything ... not really out of necessity but just out of habit.

For System, Presets and User Cab backups I have a 'Backups' folder and inside that there are different FW version folders like FW18, FW19, Q1, Q2, Q3 etc - then inside those I have yet more folders with sub-version names like Q5.00, Q5.02 - and then inside those there are the actual backup files (which are automatically named with a yymmdd datestamp prefixby Fractal-Bot during the backup so they are easy to identify).

If there's multiple different date backups of the same FW version then I might have a text file in there with some crib notes to remind myself what I did between each backup.

Sounds over complicated maybe ... but most folders just have one or two sets of backup files (probably because the new FW updates come so quickly!).

Pretty much exactly what I do.

I keep most of my backups around, although I rarely, if ever, go back to them. Same for older FW, older Axe Edit, etc. I really should adopt Trev's idea and delete everything older than a year or so.

Part of the reason I don't delete older Axe related files is because, considering the file size, there's no real necessity to.
