Fender Tone Master Pro....

its a funny pricpoint as the fm9t has SO much more going for it and so many more years of supporting and updating behind it. I think fender should have had a 1k$ price on it.
I disagree that they should be priced lower. I would say that at the price, they probably should've waited and released with significantly more amps and effects.

If they add a bunch more effects and amps, add a few more routing options, and tweak a few other minor things, it will bring it more in line with the current top-tier in the market.

IMO, it makes far more sense to grow it into its price than to release it at a lower price then raise the price drastically over maybe a year or two. Especially when doing so would create the impression of charging for firmware updates.

Fender sent me one around 3 weeks ago. It's not a threat to Fractal Audio products in terms of tweaking depth or tone 'resolution' in my opinion but it does have quite a few charms such as familiarity (virtual replications of most classic amps and pedals) and the touch-screen interface which is mirrored exactly on the desktop App that they call 'Pro Control'. Spillover presets are cool and there's something about their models of the amp brands that they own - Fender, EVH, etc - that gives them clout in that department.

At the time of writing there were about 33 amps, associated cab IR's, and 60-70 common effects, mostly based on and sounding very like the real-world examples. The Mic/Line input is a nice touch along with the ability to run it in a separate signal path (which Fractal users have been able to do for ages). There is a very 'Avalon'-ish preamp model in there to help in that department too.

And the sounds? Pretty good, although I haven't used it on stage yet so will reserve final judgement until such time as I have. You won't find huge ambient reverbs or mega/multi-tap delays, etc... none of that. It's not in the same class as Fractal where those sorts of things are concerned. Not even close. And I don't think it's trying to be either. But the quality of the Fender amp models is very good as is the EVH stuff and even their 1959SLP does the trick here. The pedals, in my experience, all sound and react much like the real thing and that's reassuring too.

It's going to appeal to the user who is cashed up (they'll need to be because it's pricey) but perhaps too intimidated by the depth of our beloved brand to take the plunge on an Axe-FX III or FM9. The Tone Master Pro makes that dive easier because of its virtual 'real-world' interface and model library - technically challenged or 'relaxed' folks will be able to identify pretty quickly with what's going on under the hood.

dont you think its odd fender released this at 1700?$ and that it has less fender amps in it then the fractals? I mean they are fender right? The whole 65 era amps are pretty generic amps and not too special from fender .I mean if i was fender i would have loaded it withmany many more classic unique vinatge fender amp models at release. While i see the gui is very iphone like and easy to navigate I just cant see how a fractal user would bother? Did you have to send it back to fender?

the guys on TGP and the gear forum are all buying the tmp and raving on it.What i find odd id guys with fm9t are buying it and i wonder why? It has less fender models then the fm9t which is lame for fender and the amount of botique/ac vox and marshal stuff in the fractal makes the tmp look pathetic
Maybe they like the UI (which is phenomenal). Maybe those people don't need a ton of amp models and effects. I mean I bought one to check out alongside my FM9T and I returned the TMP, but there's plenty to like in that unit and if they keep adding to it like they said they will it'll get stronger and stronger. Don't get me wrong, I love my FM9 and Fractal in general but I'm not gonna talk crap on people who switch. Its all subjective.

Same here, and so grateful. I think Helix and QC need to worry a bit about the TMPro but I highly doubt this’ll negatively affect FAS. But I will be heading to guitar center at some point to try out Fenders FRFR.
Gotta admit in the past I’ve had concerns about FAS being the small guy in the industry but then realized they’re still the industry leaders, have a mind blowing artist roster and in the pedal and boutique world there’s plenty of small guys so why not in modeling.
I kinda wish they’d team up with Marshall and make a Fractal/Marshall 4x12 FRFR cab to dominate all others. But thats just because being on stage is always better with a Marshall cab behind you. Ok maybe a Fractal/Mesa cab could work too.
but there is a tweeter in those fender cabs...isnt that unatural choice for guitar amps tones? I mean wouldnt going into a tube amp just make more sense?

i hear you. I think many dont switch but just add the newest shiney thing to their heap at home..and yea thats fine as its their money but seems silly.

Spot on analysis.

Judging by my past experience with Fender’s long term support of their other digital modeling devices (Cyber Twin, Mustang Amp v1 & v2, Fuse) I predict that this product will be quickly abandoned and will no longer receive long needed fixes and it’s corresponding software will totally disappear from their website with no mention that it ever existed. Even if this device is moderately successfully it will quickly be replaced with a new version that is totally incompatible with this original version requiring a new purchase and downloads.
I agree... i was pissed when fender promised an editor for my ct se and then just dropped it

They’re promoting this way more so than Fuse. Giving it a flagship treatment almost. I think they realize modeling is the future and are getting on board.
the nice thing is that they are everywhere in stores and will be for a long time so no need to buy now....wait 6 to 12 months to see how it pans out and by then used ones will pop up cheap as well. i mean there will be no waitlist on them..its fender

Fractal doesn’t have a retailer or a sales team to pay. Fender gets a fraction of the cost of the FMT. The retailer takes a chunk. The sales rep gets their share. Two entirely different business models. The function and form factor may look familiar. The rest of it is oranges and apples.

A Fender rep also said on TGP that they "plan to release firmware updates roughly every 6 months." And that "each channel of the EVH 5150 took about 3 months of development time."

So... by their own timelines, it doesn't sound like they'll provide the kind of long-term support and updates we've been used to with other prominent modelers. Who knows, we'll see.
they have been working on this for 4 yrs they said...you think in 4 yrs they could have modeled more fender amps..i mean the really cool unique ones..not the generic 65 stuff

Would kind of agree but probably not going happen unless current sales drop off a 'Cliff' . . . . . . . . . Ok kind of a stupid joke.
i think the takeaway from the tmp that may interest cliff is the switches doubling as knobs as well. That could be useful
