Fender FR-12 preamp mod : The Hissterectomy

From your experience with modding the FR12 and your work in the pedal industry, why the fender is a better product?

It's clear that with your invention it's now pushed to a level maybe beyond what will be on the market for a while, but even the stock version is so much better than what is available (with hiss).

For the reference, I compared both the powercab (112+) and fender, without touching nothing (just jack in) fender is a s tier by far, the powercab felt very very boxy and dark like there is a carpet on it.

The A/B test took me more than a week, because I wanted to believe on line6 offering.

I just can't understand why the FR12 works better.
I don't have any personal experience with the powercab, so I can't make an intelligent comparison. Your findings have been shared by many people though. Their opinion is the same.

I'm kinda busy right now :p
This kind of temple, or some modern thing?

Liam, I received two of the v3 preamps and installed them both in my FR-12s. I’m blown away! I’ve had the FR-12s since the week they were released and have dozens of gigs on them. I’m fortunate to get to play on some large theater and outdoor stages which really allows me to open these cabinets up. With the FM9 it’s absolutely glorious. The V3s have made a great FRFR solution even better and I am very grateful for all your efforts!
My question to you, can the cabinets be even further improved with a speaker swap, perhaps one of the Celestion offerings for FRFR cabinets and a tweeter upgrade? Do you think it would be worth pursuing this?

I just got off my first gig with my new FR-10. The venue’s management had moved us inside due to rain, but the indoor area was rather cavernous, prompting my use of the cut knob. It worked great.

The sound person was rather nervous about my being the only band member using amplification; even the drummer used an electronic kit for this particular circumstance. I explained that I need to both hear and feel the amp in the room; it’s been a few years since I’ve used an “amp” except for jazz gigs. And boy, did I miss that!

I still use IEMs like everyone else, but even with the FR-10’s master volume set really low, the difference was palpable.

All that said, I look forward to the V3 because I feel the need to sculpt more of the amp’s EQ. If anyone reading this far is on the fence, I say do it. I have used PA wedge monitors along with other FRFRs, and they are fine, just fine. But the FR-10 is really where things are headed for me.

It’s not hard, you have to remove everything anyway to mount the V3. Find the spot you want to put it, center punch it, and drill. If you don’t have a center punch you can use an ice pick or even the point of a Philips head. I did mine with a hand held cordless drill and it’s pretty easy material to drill through.

Edit: 6mm hole is needed
