Fender FR-12 preamp mod : The Hissterectomy

I think it's a true pipe dream that Fender would actually pause production to fix their hissy "1000W" design which would me$$ with their bottom line (and annual budgeting).

But if they did, I would consider it a true Christmas Miracle (as long as they don't steal Lysander's/WKSmith's designs).

That’s true. The bean counters make those calls, not the engineers. Also true that not all engineers are good at what they do.
Having been in R&D developing embedded controls for over 30 years, sometimes the wrong engineer develops a flawed idea that makes its way through the gates of management. Once into the project it becomes extremely difficult to course correct. It’s true management allowed it, but engineering was the culprit.

Yes and would be nice to note the serial # if factory mod has been done. Right now Fender, Sweetwater and ZZounds have the FR-12 in stock. Many other outlets like Guitar Center and Musician's Friend, unit is on backorder. Wonder if it is better to wait.
I’m the guy from TGF who posted the pictures that @Lysander shared here. I’m a little reluctant to post my serial number as I don’t want to get dragged into the middle of some sort of conflict with Fender, nor do I want them to know I opened up my FR-12 in case something ever goes wrong with mine. That said, I’m willing to consider an experiment where I buy another so I can have a stereo rig, I mean, so I can take another picture of the circuit board. I just have to find a way to get it in the house unobserved.

Do it like gun guys do… Leave off the last three ID digits.

Usually there’s enough information in the rest of the serial number to get a date range/production run

Do not do anything you feel uncomfortable with. Fender should own up to this but probably won't. Maybe others will chime in who bought one of these units recently.

Don't :D

To be fair, any assumptions around serial numbers would be (educated) guesswork to begin with: we have no idea how Fender is handling this behind curtains.

Which... sucks. If you order a FR-10/12 right now, there's simply no way to tell which "revision" you're getting.

I may cancel my order for an fr-12 which is supposedly on backorder until this gets sorted out.

The thing is, even if Fender is addressing the hiss issue behind the curtains, the phantom power issue is still very worrisome. We'll still have to rely on the fine gentlemen like Lysander and WKSmith to solve things like this.

I am including phantom power protection into the V2 pre. It's a whole 8¢ they saved by not including it. 2-4¢ if bought in decent quantity.

Its shameful
