Feedback IN the DI?

I was having a discussion on another forum, for audio engineers, where they were insisting it's impossible to create feedback from a DI and be able to reamp it to get feedback or sustain. Now I know it's not impossible because I've done it many times. But I want to know how. A dry signal - how does it record the feedback? And how does the AFx2 do feedback at low volumes?? Those of us who've done feedback with amps it's volume and the strings vibrating with the speakers - finding the sweet spot. Or it's a compressor pedal.

Several times I've recorded with the II and gotten some great sustain and feedback at low volumes, and then taken the dry DI and gotten the same or better sustain with other presets. Now I've just accepted this as true. But other than the technical Cliff Mojo going on - the feedback probably isn't recorded in the dry track, is it?

Obviously there's a difference between a DI taken before it hits the amp and one taken from the Fractal Efx Loop.
