Texas Instruments makes a prebuilt evaluation module for their TPA3001D1 Class-D amplifier chip:

I've tried it and it works pretty well if you're using a guitar cab rig.
As I've mentioned when discussing the Electro-Harmonix 22 Caliber (based on the same chip), this isn't crushingly loud, but it is surprisingly loud when you see how small it is.
Once you take the $50 eval module, pay a little shipping, buy an enclosure, a few jacks, and a power supply, the EH is probably the same price, but I put a finished amp together with these parts for fun anyway.
I thought someone else might be interested in a semi-DIY backup amp that can fit in or on their guitar cab.
