Dyncabs off axis positions, general help.

Hi everyone,

Question,
I’m trying to get into Dyncabs but I’m struggling.
Everything doesn’t sound anywhere near as good as the IR’s I'm using.

How do you get off axis positions on the mics?

Thanks in advance.

The Dynacab packs have an off axis 57 unless my memory is failing me. I have a few packs but haven’t used Cablab in awhile.

I’m 100% Dynacabs these days. I avoided them for a long time and couldn’t get a sound I liked. But one day it just worked. I’ve moved around between different speakers and lately I’m using the Hot Kitty with the ribbon mixed with the /13 CJ with dynamic 1. This is a V30 Greenback combo with the tried and true 121/57 mix. I like the adjustability. I can tailor the cabs to the amp and guitar. They’re not for everyone but I think they’re great. Cliff said the next gen is going to have more cabs and more mics. Looking forward to that!

The Dynacabs are fantastic, but you really need to put time into them to dial them in. Don’t get me wrong, they sound good at stock settings, but can really be fine tuned if you have the patience.

The Legacy IRs are pretty much plug and play, but once I nail a Dynacab there is no going back IMO.

Turning off the Auto Align is crucial for me now that it is available. Huuuuuge tone sculpting with it.

Need to clarify the term "off axis".
To me that means not dead center, which you can most definitely do.
If you mean pointing the mic at an angle, the stock cabs don't have that option, to the best if my knowledge. Not sure about add-on cab packs, i don't use them, so far, don't care for the CabLab workflow.

Yes off axis 45degree angle off speaker on axis is aiming straight at speaker.

Are we going to get this? because it is staple mix position for so many classic sound captures.

It is in Cab Lab I think but unfortunately not in the Current hardware , I don’t know about in the future but current products I don’t think it is possible

This is entirely subjective, of course, but my experience is the opposite. With Legacy IRs, I was searching and trying 100 different IRs, trying to find something that most closely fit the sound I was looking for, and then I'd have to possibly do some extra EQ after that. With Dynacabs, I was able to get everything by just playing with the mic position. Found what I wanted in about a minute.

The DynaCab packs you can purchase for CabLab has options for Off Axis for the 5153 model and "Freed Man" model. Otherwise, no factory dynacab has off axis options. For the record, these purchased DynaCab packs cannot be imported into the Axe units.

Once dynacabs came out- I haven’t touched a legacy IR or purchased IR’s since. It immediately sounded like a blanket had been pulled off the cab. Open and clear and unlimited mic adjustments- didn’t take long to get a sound I loved.

Do you have a preset you can share on here with that setup? I'm curious where you ended up on positioning the mics. Thanks

So only two cabs have off axis? And I’m not sure what you mean by ‘cannot be imported into the Axe units’.
