Recently got a Mark V head and a 112 Mesa C90 cab. The dirty channels do not need any help getting into searing gain land- The Mark V is a BEAST in this area. So I was experimenting with drives in front of channel 1 in 4cm, and am floored with how natural and flexible they are. TS, fuzz, ods, even the Rats are completely usable. A matter of fact- I would even argue "better" than real life counterparts because of the options in mixing and advanced parameters. All of a sudden, the value of the axe II is worth it's price in distortion box sims alone IMHO.
If you use a traditional amp, and you haven't explored the drives with it- stop reading this and go play.
Thank you Fractal. Really.
