Does X & Y Cost Any CPU?

If you are adding lots of extra X&Y settings throughout your chain, does that cost a lot of CPU? Do you gain CPU by say, not using 2 different amps X & Y? Or is the CPU determined not by preset, but by what is actually being used at any given time?

Its determined by what is used at the time. For example if barely max out CPU at X settings and land att say 89%, switching to a Y setting with the same blocks that take 1% more power can make you tip over and disable reverb.
Hope this helps :)
