David Lee Roth Shares Previously Unheard Version Of Van Halen's 'Panama'

AFAIK, there has been no official explanation for this track. Maybe you’re confusing it with the orher DLR track he released, the one with John5?
It's in the first paragraph lol.

David Lee Roth has shared a previously unreleased solo version of the VAN HALEN classic "Panama". According to the Van Halen News Desk, the track, which was uploaded to Roth's YouTube channel Thursday night (September 1),was laid down on May 3, 2022 during a session at Henson Recording Studio in Hollywood, California. Joining Roth in the studio were Al Estrada on guitar, Ryan Wheeler on bass and Francis Valentino on drums. A total of 14 songs were recorded in two hours. The music and the vocals were tracked live with "no samples" and without the pitch-correction technology Auto-Tune.

I’m pretty certain the article as posted originally said it was unknown who else was involved...
Al Estrada and the Vegas band recorded this as part of the Vegas "extravaganza". Al (while a great VH master - he even uses a 50 watt variac'd custom Marshall modded by Fender) he also is very noticeable in his playing and phrasing - just a slight "polish" to his Van Halen licks. Also Alex Van Halen was using a very distinctive drum kit during 1984. The bass drum was not a real drum it was a Simmons pad inserted in to the actual drum. He also used a metal Ludwig snare. It is Dave being Dave.

I'm saying the article originally said it wasn't known who else was involved, and that it's been updated...;)

So what I’m concluding is that he basically trashed a tribute/reunion tour for this, because that’s the kind of asshole Dave always has been.

Al Estrada posted (9-1-22) a link to this video on another forum saying,"Recorded this a few months ago, had no idea it was going to be released until a couple of hours ago haha, all 1 take, solo and all on the same track.......Marshall '69 Superbass converted to EVH SuperLead specs by Friedman, variac at 90 volts, dimed!"

The Live Dave and the Studio Dave are never the same that's for sure! Never cared for the live dave, too much showmanship and not enough professionalism to preserve vocal line or lyrics.
