CPU Saving Advanced Parameters List - Please add to the list

Looking for a list of advanced parameters that are designed to save CPU by eliminating the need for another block to achieve the same purpose...

Example:

AMP Block
Boost Parameter
Potentially eliminates: Drive Block

AMP Block
Input Dynamics Parameter
Potentially eliminates: Compressor Block - Dynamics Type

If you are aware of more - post them there.

You have this problem in a III...? Or meant for FM3?

Everybody can benefit of course... Let the CPU breathe a little :)

It's in the III forum because the III has all the parameters. I own an FM9, not a FM3.

As the list is complied, fm3 users will figure out whether they do or don't have the parameter (for instance I don't think FM3 has the input dynamics parameter to save processing power). I figured why limit the list to just FM users if everyone can benefit from a master list.

For those out there who want to get the most out of their Axe-FX II, here are some tips to tame the CPU. Some are obvious, some not.

  • use a PEQ (1,2%), GEQ (0,7%), FILT (0,9%) or controllers on the TRIM/DRIVE/BOOST/MASTER parameters (0.5% each) instead of a DRIVE block (9.1%)

The footnote of the above link includes a link to a 12 year old thread, where @voes suggested this above.

Here's a few:
  • use a chrous block as both a flanger and chorus by utilizing the chorus's "tape flanger" type (probably vise versa too).
  • use the tremolo feature of the amp block instead of a separate tremolo block.
  • in a pinch use "room level" / "room size" in the cab block instead of a separate reverb block.
  • combine delay into reverb using the reverb's pre delay controls (pre delay / feedback / mix).
  • combine reverb into delay by using plex delay.
  • use chorus block to double as an enhancer effect on a separate channel using dual chorus at 100% mix @ L/R time slightly offset.
  • use amp boost instead of separate drive as mentioned above - can also use the saturation switch instead of a drive.
  • amp output compressor instead of separate post compressor block as mentioned above.
  • amp input dynamics instead of separate pre compressor block as mentioned above.
  • amp input EQ instead of a drive or separate pre EQ block.
  • amp output Eq instead of a a separate post EQ block (it is switchable).
  • drive GEQ placed in pre position instead of a separate eq block before the drive.
  • put a modifier on the level control of a return block instead of a seprarate vol/pan block for post amp volume control or swells.

Nice list

Here's a specific example of one of yours

Amp Block - Input EQ Tab
Definition Knob (this boosts lows and cuts highs from the Input, or vice versa)
Replaced Filter Block, Tilt EQ Type

Side note: Crank Definition knob to 10 with a Friedman/Plexi and you get Nuno style crispy percussive sounding hammer-on's for He Man Woman Hater (don't forget his Rat drive pedal too)
