Controlling an Axe II and a Timeline with the MFC

OK, I confess - I've used the MFC in Axe-Fx mode only. Now I'd like to control my Strymon Timeline with the MFC, too. I've read the manual and as far as I've understood, I should use preset mode, is that right?
Do the IA switches on my presets still work in preset mode with AxeFx mode off?
How to you set up a second device with the MFC? Obviously MIDI out from the Axe to MIDI in on the Timeline. Then what?

The MFC still sends MIDI commands in Axe mode.

What do you need to control on the other device? The only "problem" is that you must use the Out/Thru port in the Axe to chain multiple devices via MIDI.

PC messages are still sent when you change presets. For CC messages though, just change the function of a single IA. Turn the Axe function to none for that switch and assign a CC # to it instead.
 
Hey Gearhead, did you ever get this to work? I picked up a Timeline today and starting down this same journey. I have pedals I can't sell so I figured I might as well put them to use.
