connectivity through laptop?

If I wanted to play along (thru the Axe-Fx with headphones) on the laptop with mp3's or Guitar Pro, do I simply use a Midi to USB box for input?

What is the latency like? Which hardware do you recommend?

Sorry for the noob question, I've looked through many threads and haven't seen the workflow described.

You'll need an audio interface or a mixer to combine the various audio signals. The AxeFx does not transmit any audio (nor does any device) via the midi signal.

I can't recomend an audio interface for the laptop but for a quick and easy (and limited) input you could go out of the Axe into a line in or mic in. Then use the OS's mixer from there.

hphones <-hphone amplifier <- axe-fx <- (Axe input 1) <- laptop hphone out (mp3's)

Would the laptop out be at the right levels for the Axe to accept?
