CAT5 Cable issues

Hi all
I picked up a Cat 5 cable to run between the fractal and the MFC. It provides power to the unit but there's no communication between them; the patch names don't display, and the switches don't cycle patches or otherwise affect the fractal unit itself. I set up the MFC to Expansion Port, and made the appropriate changes in the I/O menu on the Fractal, but... Nothing.
Thoughts?
 
Are you getting any error message? Did you remove the MIDI cable if you were using one previously? Are you in Axe II mode?
 
No error message, just patch # without names. I did remove the MIDI cable (a bad cable is why I decided to try the CAT5). I am in Axe FX II mode.

Don't know if this is related but at start up I find I need to actually step on the MFC and select the patch and then the AXE & MFC are in-sync.
 
What is the length of your cable? I am just thinking out loud here. Some have experienced issues with cables longer than 20ft.

So you are saying you get the correct #'s all the time just no name associated with them?

Also, what version FW are you on in both the Axe and MFC?
