Can you still do tonematching through a separate audio interface?

I'm buying an audio interface and mic preamp combo for recording drums, and there are eight available inputs left. I don't want to rule out recording whole bands nor jam sessions if they're doable.

Yes. BTW I would be very interested in hearing how a guitar tonematched to a snare or crash would sound.

j/k :D

To record the whole band/session, you'd use the interface with the multiple inputs. Then when you want to tone match, in the DAW you'll have to change the audio device to the AxeFX. This will allow the AxeFX to receive the reference tone via USB. This will also cause the AxeFX to functionally be your soundcard, so if you want to hear anything, you'd connect your speakers (or headphones) to the AxeFX.

Thank you. Would everything else that's plugged into the other interface still be able to record if the audio device is set to Axe-FX? Someone told me about using an aggregate device on the computer.
