Can I and the FM3 do this with setlist?

As a solo performer part and parcel of the job is being flexible with song selection. I like what setlist does basically but can I select songs from the FM3 master list using a bluetooth tablet mounted on my mic stand without using foot switch buttons? I do not want to work too rigid setlists; I am not a jukebox. I want to be able to quickly changes songs as the room changes. Being able to simply touch the next song on my tablet with a finger and I'm ready to go is very appealing to me. Possible? BTW, I am very much into simplicity; I am a musician, not a computer programmer. :)

Not easily. You could probably use a wireless midi device from the iPad to the fm3 to select presets.

Instead of an iPad what if you used a cheap laptop?

The Setlist/Song/Section feature does not currently support making selections via MIDI/Remote control. But then, MIDI can already select any Preset and/or Scene, so you can do the same thing directly using your tablet app if it sends MIDI data.

To me, using bluetooth to do this would be easy but what do I know. I have two JBL PRX ONE's that the entire mixer and linking of additional units is all controlled by the JBL PRO CONNECT software. It's easy peasy nice and especially easy. :) Sounds like Fractal needs to catch up. Oh well I asked. Thanks

I'm not sure I understand what you are looking for, when you say "touch the next song on my tablet with a finger". I use BandHelper on my tablet for songs and setlists, and am connected using Bluetooth with my FX3/Yamaha MD-BT 01. I can touch a song on my tablet/Bandhelper app and it sends MIDI PC and CC changes to my FX3 to select presets and scenes for each song as you suggest. I also send Tempo at the same time as I like my time delays in tempo.

I am also not familiar with JBL PRO CONNECT software so am not sure what it does - does it manage song lists/setlists for you, is that where you want to 'touch the next song', in a list in that software?

No, it is a total software mixer with all effects where everything that the PA is capable of doing can be controlled from my tablet mounted on the mic stand with the touch of a finger. It also allows for all the speakers (within the product group) to be wireless connected including monitors and sub within that product group. Actually quite nice. Also, once again, the documentation is sorely lacking but unlike the FM3 is a fairly straight forward unit.

I am not a software guy, but to be able to control the entire setlist with my tablet by just touching a song on the list having it connected with bluetooth to the FM3. Like I said, I am not a juke box so I want to be able change up my song selection easily depending on the room. Setlist looks pretty cool but it also looks rigid in its implementation, I could be wrong though. If you work to the same song list every night then it looks pretty cool but I need flexibility to be able to scroll through my songs and instantly select a song regardless of a set list. Am I explaining this okay?

Thanks

I do get the flexibility part - I currently have a "setlist" that contains all active songs, and can sort by what ever I choose - alpha, color, tags, key, etc. If I touch whatever song, it sends whatever MIDI I have attached to that song (preset, scene, tempo, DMX light control, etc)

What I can't picture is where you say "touching a song on the list", what does that mean. Is it a text file list, Adobe PDF list, xls list... guess I am suggesting there must be some intermediate software that you are using to create and display a list of songs that you have created - if that software will send MIDI then you can do what you are looking to do.

I don't have them but I understand OnSong, Songbook, prob many others send MIDI just like Bandhelper does

No, it would be the same as pushing the foot switch button to select the song as you would normally do except have the flexibility to easily select on your tablet from your song list any song on your list as you desire. Once that is done you would still have to use the foot switch to move through the sections of the selected song which to me wouldn't be an inconvenience (even for me). The way I read the manual, you do not have the flexibility to select any song, you have to work with the order of you set list you previously setup which to me, is confining and rigid. BTW, yes, this would take a program to be programmed for your tablet that would interface with the FM3, hopefully bluetooth wirelessly. It is too bad they did not follow this through to its logical conclusion, but maybe the good folks at Fractal will keep the solo performer in mind. The more I learn about the FM3, I know this could easily be done, all they have to do is to do it and then explain it in a complicated in their manual as possible. :). Hey you guys, that's a joke! :)
