Best way to place an Eventide H9 on the grid.

I saw the stock preset utilizing output 3 I/O. This works fine, but how do I toggle the effect loop on and off? If I shut off output 3, won’t it break the signal chain and subsequently all sound?
So basically I want to place I/O 3 somewhere in the chain and be able to toggle on and off.

It won't break the chain if you do it right.

As long as the Output block is connected to the Input block on the grid. That connection doesn't have to be a shunt. From the Blocks Guide:

Right... In the diagram it's a "cable", not a shunt.

@Bruce Sokolovic - you probably already know this, but a "cable" connects blocks while a "shunt" is really like a block that just passes signal (it takes the place of a block).
