Beato thinks the AI music race is over

I like some of Rick’s interviews, but I don’t consider his opinions to be much more than that.. just another 2 cents in the din of YT noise.

AI is so early in its development that I don’t think anyone really knows where it will head, what it will do, for music or anything else. I expect the products to build on one another and create exponential type growth… something like our version of the Industrial Revolution. Once the dam breaks, there’s no putting the water back.

Far from over. My 2 cents to add to the noise.

I'm not sure what the point of this video was. Who gives a shit which algorithm gives the best fake music? If I can't see it live, or jam with it, IDGAF. This stuff is for people who don't care about music, and just want something on in the background, or a theme song for their youtube channel.

Rick is addressing the apparent dominance of a platform called Sunno for AI music creation in this video.

I think he's being naive, based on an historical perspective though. Pick an industry and the companies which dominated the market early on, more often than not, fall by the wayside (i.e., RCA, AOL, Radioshack, TWA, you could go on and on).

Exactly.

He's also pointing out that in some contexts, AI is being used for music creation pretty frequently. Based on the limited circle of musicians I'm in contact with, mostly the folks here, i wouldn't have thought that was the case. To put it differently, the disrespect it mostly gets here isn't universal.

Suno has won the first major battle of a war that will last a couple of decades (maybe less, maybe more) IMO. The biggest thing AI will bring to the table that human musicians will not be able to compete with is being able to adjust what is being delivered to each individual based on previous likes, downloads, enthusiasm, etc. By figuring out EXACTLY what each person likes, and delivering new material that has every element perfected to that person's tastes, will be impossible to compete with when it comes to what gives that human the most pleasure. Beato did have it right to an extent a couple of years ago when he said that we will will have artist x and artist x AI, but we will also have artists x, y and z melted together to give us exactly what we want to hear. We will also have a completely separate genre of music known as the "Human Genre" which I sing about in a song by that name on my last album ;~))

Exactly.

Yeah it wasn't the take I expected when I saw the video title, and based on some of his previous criticisms of AI. It does have the potential of being a great tool to enhance song writing and production.

Exactly.

Or to put it differently, people's workflows prioritize different things, and for some, AI comes up as efficient and "good enough".

Mega large language machine learning models. That's really where it's at. As noted above: Sentient? No, and hopefully never.

Suno and Sony (i think it was sony) partnered up.

The race to not pay musicians continues.

If you know an “artist” is AI, block their content and tell all your friends.

the other problem remains that people dont really want to pay for their art, even artists.

And re: mashups etc, humans have been doing that for years. Look up Mac Glocky. No AI needed.

scarcely likely it is Sony because Sony was one of several labels that initiate proceeding because of usage their records for learning of suno generation algoritms. The process was initiated an year ago but, nothing new known on today

In the video I posted, It was definitely needed to get Scott Stapp to sing Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer in the style of “Higher.” 😂
