Basal joint Arthritis--anyone have an LRTI done?

I have rheumatoid arthritis in both thumbs but its my fingering hand that is the real pain (pun intended) I am thinking about having a Ligament Reconstruction and Tendon Interposition surgery. I understand that recovery can be 6 months or more and can be painful. I don't have a problem with that. What I would have a big problem with would be going through this then finding out my hand strength/dexterity has been compromised. My Doctor says I should have full use of the hand but I would love to hear from any musicians who have had this done. Also if anyone can point me in the right directions to any Guitarist resources for more info on the procedure,

Wow! That is great! My Doctor told me 4-6 weeks. I guess I just wanted to hear it from a musician that's been there. Thank you! I am scheduled for March 20th and I am having my right thumb done ( I'm a lefty player)
