b3 Telstar

Because it's a bit... well... Could you explain why you would want this?
They describe it as the best of both worlds. Yet, to me, it screams "compromise" all the way. No, I did not read the whole spec sheet. But what's the draw to this, especially if you have a proper Strat and a proper Tele? (Do you?)

(Not saying it's shit or something, but I just don't really get this thing. Are you "in love"? Then I will say no more. But I'd be really interested why.)

That is a thick neck. And I don't what I would do with a 10-way switch? But I don't hate the guitar.

Well i like strats, but I'm not totally fond of their bridge pickup, maybe this is Bigger, less trebly. Sacrilege i know but fact.

Far as the 10 way, I'm a sucker for electronics with lots of possibilities, if a bunch are cool in some way. In fact i have two freeways here, waiting for me to get off my duff and rehab my 3 pickup 60s 335. They're the 6-ways though, not 10. Haven't actually used one, we'll see.

Ah, okay... I never got the three-saddle bridge stuff, how do you really properly intonate this? If it had a strat bridge, I might've been a bit more open to it. For the bridge pick-up: Isn't there a tone knob? 😉 Regarding the electronics: Yeah, I forgot about your "lotsa switches" guitar that you posted about a while ago, IIRC... Makes sense now. OTOH: If you got 10 options and wind up only ever using your favourite 2 or 3, it's just needless complication and more stuff that can fail. (You wanted to know why you shouldn't want this! EDIT: And I didn't even mention the price. But I only work a part-time low-qualification job, so our budgets will differ...)

Full disclosure: Started out on a Squier strat, loved it, but wanted more ooomph, so I picked up a used Hohner Marlin HSS with Floyd. Loved it more. Ever since, I exclusively bought HH, finished neck guitars - despite not really liking finished necks. And I've come to loathe Floyds.

But I never had a Tele, and I feel an NGD looming over me to cope with a loss in the family - Power strat or proper, classic Tele? (But that's my problem, don't wanna OT your post, though I'd value your experienced opinion, maybe by DM: Finally back to something I know I love but currently don't have, or something new that everybody says is "it"? Once you go Tele, it's always on your belly, or something like that.)

I haven't had a tele since high school a couple centuries ago. I did love it, even after i put 2 more pickups on it :). They really are cool guitars.

Not a fan of big necks in general, but I gotta play it to know anything really. Ditto the bridge pickup.

And yeah, the price. I should stop looking at that store, period. It's 5 mins from my house though...

Because the headstock is hideous.

B3 guitars are crazy good, but that one is ugly.

Music Emporium is a great shop if you've never been there.
Friendly staff - best high end acoustic shop within 100 miles.

Got my Collings there (used).
Dangerous store, so i almost never go :)

Frankly for that kind of cash you have alot of possibilities to check all the wants boxes for a guitar....research and patience and you well know the right axe will be found because in my opinion that ugly arse guitar is just way over priced ;)

Unless you just want a Tele, for about the same price of the B3, I might be inclined to get this one:

Cool, but not for me, now at least, though i am i big Collings fan.

If i really wanted a tele, that b3 isn't really that. More looking for something strat-adjacent that really scratches that fatter bridge pickup itch for me, ideally without going full HSS.

I have an actual EJ strat, which is great, but i keep fighting w the bridge pu, and a Vigier Expert Retro 54, which while very cool just doesn't have that magic, maybe. Or maybe i just need to adjust my squint. Working on it...

Instead of buying a whole new guitar, wouldn't swapping the bridge pick-up on your EJ be an option?

Yeah I've thought about it. Part of me thinks it should stay stock like it is, instead of modding like I have w tendency to do. Or not.

Also don't know what pickup to try. Suggestions, strat like but fatter?

I got distracted by a silly YouTube video, but the first thing I googled was "single coil bridge pick up for strat less treble more output" (is that a fair description?) and at least Bareknuckle has a good selection, but I think they only sell sets of three, not individually. (Still way less expensive than a new guitar, but OTOH: Who doesn't like a new guitar? 😉)

I'm not on the up-and-up about who'd be the best choice of pick-up manufacturers, alas... @Andy Eagle could probably shed a light on this?

As for "remaining stock": Why, if it doesn't sound the way you'd like? Resale value? Just keep the stock parts so that you can return the guitar to its original condition. Or so I've been told, at least.
