Axe-Fx III as Interface - Controlling Volume - Used to My Interface - Suggestions?

I am considering using my Axe-FX III as my DAW interface so I can really take advantage of reamping - at least make it easier.

I'm so used to being able to use my Audient to switch between my monitors and headphones and the big knob to control volume for both.
It seems like using the Axe-FX as the interface would make this process really odd/difficult.

Curious how your doing it?

The Out 1 knob controls the level for both the Headphone jack and Output 1 jacks. If I'm going to use headphones, I just turn my active CLR cab off.

You can also use a small mixer to split the analog output signal between your monitors and headphones if your monitors don't have a dedicated on/off switch.

Since Out 1 is tied to both the main outputs and headphones volume, I'd use that for headphones and Out 2 for studio monitors.

It's definitely less than ideal as an audio interface but it can work.

I use Logic, so for me it's easier to set the Fractal as the input device if I'm recording the dry for quantizing/vocalign, tuning, or reamping. The output device is always set to my RME interface so my workflow isn't really altered too much in either case.

This is what I do now - but what is your reamping workflow?

Sorry I can see how my post was confusing. For reamping I just reverse the DAW’s input and output devices once the dry is recorded. This way the dry goes to and from the fractal and DAW digitally, but the processed fractal signal goes through my outboard mic preamps.

Do you know of any tutorial videos that demonstrate this workflow?

Are you on Windows or Mac OS? If Mac OS, you can create an aggregate audio device with the inputs and outputs of both devices.

Is all of your physical routing via USB or are you also connecting to your interface from your Axe-FX?
Output of the fractal is connected to my mic Pres and then the line inputs on my interface, that’s how I record the processed audio.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I can't seem to get this method to work.

I'm considering purchasing a new interface that has SPDIF in and out. Mine currently only has In.
If I understand correctly, this method would be the most seamless?

Post screenshots of the axe edit audio setup page and your interface’s control software.

I tried again and it's now working but I'm not certain about something. I'm not sure what was slightly off but I was routing from Output 2 on the Axe-FX to my interface. I changed it to Output 1.

What I noticed is the entire mix is recorded on the track unless I solo the track I want reamped.

Are you going from output 1 as well?

If you're on a Mac. Creating an aggregate audio device between the Audient and the Axe III is the most seamless approach. You'll then select that audio device in your DAW and you'll have access to all of the inputs and outputs of both devices.

Does using and aggregate still allow me to use strabes workflow?
