Axe-Fx 2: Stevie Ray Vaughan Guitar Tone Video Tutorial

I really liked the tutorial and your playing is great too! I followed it to the letter but there was still something (besides our fingers) that just didn't exactly jive on my end, until I noticed you were tuned a half step down. Once there, everything seems to fall in place....:encouragement: THANKS!

Correct tuning also helps :p when I use different tunings (which is rare, I always use Eb tuning) I find that my tones don't sound and feel the same, so I have to tweak things. For SRV tones, it also helps to have pretty heavy strings too. I'm not saying use 13s, but let's face it, 9s ain't gonna sound quite right playing SRV.

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed watching it. I need more gain to get as much crunch as you but I think those early 70's pickups are wound a little hotter than the 'vintage' voiced pickups in my Strat. Plus I use girl-ey strings on my guitar so the output from that alone will be a little lower.

LOL @ "girly strings:

FWIW, my Strats pickups measure about 5.6k on all three.

Awesome man. Puts a sock in the mouth of all those saying the Axe FX II has a hard time with this type of tone.

Mighty Tyler... your video is one of the most clear and effective and focused I ever seen!
Plus... I can stay here hours listening your SRVish tests chops!
Great job Man... and a BIG TNX
waiting for your next videotutorial... maybe some Hendrix? ;)

Add another voice to the choir...I loved the tutorial! Very useful info, compelling presentation (the 20 minutes went by very quickly), and great playing. You're a natural at this video stuff.

The timing couldn't have been better, either. I have a former student coming over tomorrow to check out my Axe-Fx rig. He's a blues player who plays a lot of casino gigs. More and more of the venues he plays are wanting players to run ampless on stage, so he just picked up a POD HD500x that he's not real impressed with. I've been ampless for a few years now (first with Line 6 gear, and now with Fractal) so I'm going to give him an idea of what the Axe-Fx can do.

Thanks for the walkthrough Tyler. I really enjoyed seeing how you can match all the little details like transformer and multiple amps so incredibly easily where with a real amp it would be very annoying, time consuming, and expensive. Another huge benefit of the Axe.

I added a few delays and another reverb and am using it at a service I'm playing at this morning. Sounded killer so far and I've struggled to make an SRV sound work in this context in the past, but this base tone cuts through the mix really nicely. Great time to be playing guitar.

I finally got around to watching this one. Tyler, you're an asset to the community. Stunning playing and pro-level programming.

Tyler, as a huge SRV fan I would like to say a big thanks for the awesome video + JBL E130 IR, your tips are so useful ! I just donated again...

BTW did you try the new "Vibrato Verb Cs" model ? Sounds great to me.

Does anyone know if there's any JBL E110 UltraRes-IR available ? Just wondering, as AFAIK legend has it that SRV's SuperReverb was loaded with those.

Cheers

Tyler - this is AWESOME. I learned so much from this video. I seriously am not great at creating my own patches. I typically try and keep it simple. What I liked about this video is that you kept it pretty simple, yet showed some little tricks that I would have never known. Sometimes it can get a little overwhelming for me because of the sheer number of ways to create tone and one little adjustment can make a tone sing or flop. I just don't have the experience yet to know what knob does what. This video really helped. And to let others know who may not be running FRFR, I am using mine directly into a Matrix 1000 and a port city 2x12 with ev 12l - and I used this patch without a cab block and the low E string kicked my ass and made the pictures on my wall rattle ! Sounds amazing - Thanks again Tyler !

Awesome!!! So thankful for your generosity!!!

Haven't gotten around to experimenting with the cs yet. I'm planning on it though...

I've got a e110 here... And made a couple of irs... But they kinda sucked. The e130 with a super reverb always sounded better at least with my ir captures.

Thanks for making that video, it was quite inspirational and fun. Wonderful job!!
In keeping with the SRV vibe, what would you use for a Wah on that preset? SRV's wah sound was exceptional (yes much had to do with his technique). I know he also on occasion taped two together and played them as one big super wah (I know no idea on what recordings or how much he actually did that). Have you played with Axe-Fx wahs much? Do you have an SRV favorite with settings? Although I love SRV, I almost never play in that style (or with a strat), so it's fun terf to explore on occasion.

Thanks much

Fantastic video and what a great preset Tyler! Wow, I'm still knocked out. Quantum kicks ass and Tyler, you rule!

Here's some fun I got up to today. So cool to be able to do this whisper quiet with the wife napping in the other room :)

This video is my official first strike against the ever so anticipated AX8.....requires 2 amps.

Fantastic Job Tyler!
