AX8 inconsistent in bringing up patches…

I’m having a weird issue…I’ve shared my presets here before…my main high gain preset is a very rich tone that is powerful but not ‘biting’ if that makes sense.

For some reason the last few gigs I’ve noticed my tone is much thinner, far more shrill than I like. So I’ve re-imported my scene preset several times, and that works for a while…but this seems to be happening wayyy too regularly now, and I just don’t have time in a gig to be fighting this.

I have so enjoyed this unit…but…Is it just time for me to upgrade to a newer model? Are there any Fractal units that will accept AX8 patches?

As always, thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

I think it's time you invest in an FM9 or if you can't afford that an FM3. You won't regret it. I haven't missed my AX8 a day since I switched over to the FM9 a year ago.

Those newer units are wayyy pricey, especially for someone who doesn’t play a lot of paying gigs.

I’m afraid I’m just not in a position to be able to buy something else. Retired teacher married to a retired band director with a medically disabled 25-year old daughter at home.

Will just have to limp along here. Is what it is!

Regardless, I appreciate the words of advice and wisdom.

OK...so here's the latest.

For some reason, almost all of my 'assigned positions' for my expression pedals (wah and reverb/delay levels) and footswitchable effects (phase and chorus) were boogered up and out of order. Have no clue why.

Sooo....I reloaded the entire scene from my computer back into the AX8, took all of the expression pedals and external footswitch devices out of the mix, went in and set all of their value to 'none'...then re-assigned them (I just took the wah out completely and left it out...just one little bump on it threw my whole tone upside down)...and now all seems well - at least for the moment.

I'm seriously considering trying to use the FracPad app in our live situations just in case something goes wonky again. Anybody have any suggestions/advice regarding it?

Weird…I’d maybe try rebuilding a few presets from scratch, maybe a factory reset to see if it keeps doing it. But it’s easy enough to accidentally bump a few buttons and knock a modifier way out of wack.

Fracpad will take a minute to learn, but should be helpful in an emergency. I just use a printer to USB-C cable to my iPad and it works fine!

Agreed. I really, really like the AX8...it fits everything I need and I didn't have to sell a kidney to get one.

I ordered a lightning/USB camera adapter that has a USB connector to use between my phone and the unit...that should work, right?

I'm saying it yet again: Updated AX8, please. Same layout, form, and function, just with 3rd gen effects updates.

Maybe the time wasn't right before with the market leaning heavily toward digital modeling and IR advancement. Seems like we're approaching a point when the definitive top-notch multi-effect, full pedalboard replacement would be welcomed with open arms.

Yes, I've tried that with the FM9.

I can see it for sure. It's a very functional unit with a lot of really cool stuff inside it.
