Apogee Duet

Anybody here using the Duet? What are your thoughts on it? My two main questions are:

1. How is latency and monitoring through it while recording?

2. Can you use it "stand alone" as just a headphone amp?

I use one.

Latency is pretty much zero as long as you monitor through Maestro and not using a DAW software package.

You can't use it standalone. It gets it's power from the FireWire bus so it has to be attached. As long as you mac is powering the fw bus it works. For example it works when my iMac is in standby.

By this you mean work when they're not connected to a computer, right?

The Metric Halo interfaces will, but you´ll be at a higher price range (and quality) than the Duet.
