Anyone successfully connecting AxeFX SPDIF out to an interface?

Are you connecting both SPDIF IN and OUT connections? It's been a while since I've used SPDIF (my old M-Audio interface bit the big one), but I think if you connect to the SPDIF In port on the Axe FX, it has to use an external clock source.
