AMP - Two notes Captor - FM3

Hey!

I just got a used Two Notes Captor that I intended to use this with my Peavey Invective amp going into the FM3 and use the internal cab block + FX.
Is there anyone that have experience or knowhow if this is possible to get a good result this way?

The issue I am getting is a extremely harsh and strange sound running the signal this way, when going direct to my interface and into my daw and use the Torpedo Wall of Sound it sound as expected.

Any ideas?

I would use the Line Out from the Captor and go into Input 2 L since those are meant for line level signals. Input 1 is for instrument level signals.

In SETUP: I/O: Audio, set Input 2 Mode to “LEFT ONLY”and adjust Input 2 Pad if necessary to avoid clipping on the input.

then in the grid you can run your IN 2 block into a CAB block, etc.

This is the same setup I use, except with a Boss TAE instead of a captor. The post above outline it perfectly. I set the output level from the TAE so it's always in the orange on the FM3 input. otherwise, its super easy and works a treat.

Not to highjack but curious to hear what advantage this type of setup gives you guys? Is it so you can play your amp in the room and have that feel coming from your cab but then having the flexibility to record your DI amp tone and run an IR through fractal as well as any post-effects for recording? I've bounced back and forth between straight digital and amp and cabs and wonder if this may be the expense albeit ideal way to go lol.

Precisely. It's a best-of-both-worlds approach and allows for tons of flexibility both live and in the studio.

High quality reactive load boxes need not break the bank, though. You can snag a used MKI Suhr reactive load for under $300 easy. B-stock Captors are even more affordable.

First you have to weigh if this setup actually sounds better. If you think it does, you have to weigh how much better and the value of that in dragging around the extra gear. My experience has been no, it has not been worth it. As much as I love two notes WOS, it’s just not worth bringing out another potential point of failure for.

I personally gig with the FM3 most of the gigs BUT when it is a bigger gig and I feel like dragging the extra 12 kilos for my 50W ‘68 Marshall Plexi clone and a small extra bag for the Suhr Reactive Load box and some extra cables, I do that :)

Recording always through my Tube Amp + Load box and the FM3 handles all the cabs, FX and SP/dif out to Interface / DAW.

I hear and feel the difference and Fractal comes very close but Tubes is what I prefer when done RIGHT !!

I have plenty of videos on my YT channel if you would like to hear differences and how both setups sound.

BUT please buy the right load box for your precious setup like the Suhr or Fractal…… Two Notes / Ox box just sound quite ‘stiff’…… ;)
