Ambient, round, Mike Oldfield solo tone

Hi all,

This is my first message in the board since I recently got my Ultra, though I have been following the boards for some time now. I would like to seize the opportunity to congratulate you all for the great community you have built.

Just starting to get the thing going now, but it seems there is a sound I love which I cannot easily replicate, and I would like to know if anyone is able to post something similar or give some tips on it. It is the classic, over-compressed, all-round, dream-like Mike Oldfield solo tone. A couple of examples:

+ Let there be light, the melody starting at 1:13: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJJmS-HY234
+ Sentinel, the lick starting at 0:20: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5M46Q4POEA

I guess there's quite a lot of stuff there, including reverbs, delays, maybe even an slight wha... and what I believe is the key factor for the extremely "roundy" sound, the compressor. I got a pretty similar sound in my old POD 2.0, which got a extremely simple compressor which just happened to be somehow built to offer that kind of tone when maxed out. One of my problems is that with all the options offered by Axe's compressor, I am unable to tune it up to match Oldfield's tone.

So if anyone could post a similar patch, or give some tips on how to build it, it will be pretty much appreciated!!

Thank you very much in advance.
