AM4 VP4 recording into DAW issue

When usb c is plugged in to am4 into (Mac Book) Luna daw you don’t hear VP4 effects but if you plug headphones into am4 you hear both. Seems vp4 is not going through the usb c from the am4 into the daw

I don't have mac, but it works fine on my windows 11 and into reaper daw. You sure it's not a mac or daw issue?

how do you have it set up?

I have vp4 in the inserts of am4, and in order for the entire chain to be recorded I have to choose the vp4 in my daw to record with.

The USB send and receive on the AM4 are before the analog sends. You would need to use the VP4 USB outputs to hear the VP4 effects. Or use the analog out L/R on the AM4.

I thought the whole point of spdif was to avoid a/d/a/d/a conversion? So I still have to hook up the VP4 into the loop with 1/4” patch cables? I will just plug the 1/4” cables running stereo out, instead of power amp I will run into my UA Volt 876

I understand. I did that. VP4 usbc out into mac I use the VP4 in daw. Or am4 usbc out into daw I choose the am4. That I understand. Still same issue.

Have you checked in the setup menus for am4 and vp4 if anything is not set right for input / output source stuff?

I will check when I get home from work. Just thought it was odd that headphones and analog outs work. I’m guessing running a spdif back to the AM4 wouldn’t work because the above diagram shows it is not in the path of the usb

Am4 spdif out => VP4 spdif in => VP4 USB to DAW

Or

VP4 spdif out => am4 spdif in => am4 usb to DAW

Inserts and headphones are in analog domain after the usb. There is no 4cm over spdif which I think is the underlying confusion here.

To keep it simple, unplug the usb from your am4 entirely if the vp4 is last in the chain.

I wish I had it cabled wrong...I'm willing to learn! Guitar into AM instrument, SPDIF out from AM4 to SPDIF IN on VP4. Stereo (SPDIF) from AM to VP, TS L/R from VP Outputs to TRS RETURN on AM. Headphones are working as expected with AM4, but VP4 is only coming through one side of the stereo field, or possibly summing to one side? The output jacks on the AM are going to my Apollo X6 3/4 inputs, and that signal is pretty weak (investigating that issue separately, but the same signal issue is present with output jacks. from your vp4 output left right back into the am4 return?
