Am I crazy to go back to Ax8?

I have an axeiii mk2. Would I be crazy to go back to my old ax8 setup? Do I have rose colored glasses or would I be disappointed. I miss the form of the AX8 for travel, ease, and tweaking live.

Many of my clients still tour and gig with the AX8. If it works, it works. Good tone never goes out of style or becomes obsolete.

Of course, if I'd kept my AX8, there's no reason it wouldn't still be serving me well.

Not crazy if the AX8 gives you the tones you want and like. The only way to find out is to plug it in and see for yourself, the only opinion that really matters is yours.

AX-8 is now vintage. Vintage tone is where it's at. Seriously the AX-8 is a good piece of kit, the one I have still does more then it did when I bought it (fractal and there updates).

I echo this. Once I got my FM9 the step up was too great to keep the AX8. Gave a local forum member a good deal on it

I miss the slightly more compact two row / 10+1 switch layout of the AX8. In every other way, the FM9 is vastly superior.

In that case, since you would be buying another device, the FM3 or FM9 are definitely worth the 'upgrade'. The AX8 vs Axe III tones was closer when I bought the Axe III at FW 3.0, but now the difference in tone and feel are very noticeable. The last time I played the AX8 was when I decided the difference was too great and sold it to get the FM3.

Don't let the 3 buttons on the FM3 fool you, it is impressive what they can do, moreso if you add a 2 button external switch. Everything I could do with the AX8 I can do with the FM3 and external switch and then some.

I still have my trusted AX8 next to all other FAS devices, I am hesitant to sell it. Yes the newer devices sound better, but in a live application I doubt that anyone in the audience will hear a difference or even care.

Agreed. I had the AX8 and sold it when the FM3 came out. The FM3 is a better form factor; better features; better sounds; up to date firmware, which is still being updated, improved and supported. IMHO, the FM3 over the AX8 is a no-brainer.

Anything can be measured. If he likes the ax8 let him like the ax8. Some guys get an amp and die with it, this is no different.
