AFX + Headphone amp ...

My intent, once I get my Ultra is to use a power amp (likely DCM 600) and FRFR passive speakers (still haven't made a firm choice). However, there'll be lots of times when I want to use headphones only (late night / insomniac practicing etc.). As such, I'm assuming I'll need a headphone amp (please correct me if I'm wrong). I see Carvin makes one for a hundred and change, and Art Audio make cheaper ones etc. Anyone have any advice / recommendations? Would prefer a rack mount unit so it can go with the rest of the kit easily. Thanks folks.

Oh cool, I could use this in the rack and be able to jam with an IPOD anywhere:

Wonder if I can find one that doesn't take up so many rack spaces ...

Look at the thread on Axe FX Accessories... I think I listed the Behringer Amp for $40 and a lot of people just use a small mixer like the Mackie 802 VLZ3 or something.... You DO need a headphone amp or mixer though. Despite what some people may say on the threads, the Axe FX will not drive all "decent" headphones. It probably will power some cheap ear buds by great some kind of insert cable with a female 1/8" or something. Cliff advises against that and so most....

Of course some people will insist otherwise! ;-)
