Advice Re: Balanced vs. Unbalanced Outputs, Please.

Hello, all:

I currently use the balanced outputs of Output 1 on my Axe FX II. Both outputs are brought around front in my rack via a Vfram unit. One out goes to my powered monitor, and the other ges to the FOH mixer.

When configured in this fashion, I only have one output level control available - the Output 1 control.

Presumably, I could continue with this fashion by sending the balanced out to the monitor and using an unbalanced out from Output 2 to go to the mixer or vice versa. Then, I will have separate level controls.

Any downside to making this change? If noise is the only issue, I can get by with a 1/4" cable under 18 feet.

Thanks.

Yeah, if you want independent control and aren't doing anything at the moment with output 2, I suggest:
- Send output 1 (balanced) to the FOH desk (usually the longest run)
- Send output 2 (un-balanced) to the monitor wedge.

This is the exact setup I use and I've never encountered any kind of noise problem with my monitor. Don't forget the 1/4" outputs also feature the Humbuster tech: Humbuster connections - Axe-Fx II Wiki
