Adrian Belew Electronic Guitar

You guys might also enjoy this one:

It's from 12 years ago. The Axe Fx gets a shout out around 4 minutes in.

Towards the end there's a shot of his Atomic (reactor?) wedge mic'd with an SM57 :)

Thanks for posting this. I have watched it a few times, but it’s been a while. I clicked on it and ended up watching it again.

I think the last time I watched I had heard of Fractal, but sort of thought it was out reach price wise (or better, I had already invested much $$ in other areas) and I was also still not into modeling. Probably if I would have gotten the Axe FX then it would have changed my mind rather quickly.😀

Right?
The first time I heard of Axe FX was through one of the guitar magazine ads with Vai. I eventually bought the Axe FX II and MFC foot controller, but it was really complicated for me (and still is...). I mostly used out of the box presets through an Atomic Amp powering 4 Marshall 4 x12 cabs and an Atomic wedge. Glorious sounding but I ended up selling it all. I only got back into Fractal thanks to the smaller footprint of the FM3.

Definitely…I think is was probably Dweezil Zappa where I first heard of Fractal. His setup was ginormous and seemed out of reach. Later I had known of the FX8 (totally missed the AX8) and it caught my eye, but it was the FM3 that really made me think this is the unit. Right price and right artists backing it.

Actually the Quad Cortex was getting all this hype at the time, but not released yet and being delayed. By this point I had figured out it was the ability to process the data fast that was really at the core of what I didn’t like about modeling (latency) also a tendency of unrealistic clean and edge of breakup sounds. The QC was touting all this processing power, but wasn’t available. I forget where, but an ad popped up about the FM3 and everything about it appealed to me. The rest is history.

I often wonder if the FM9 was available at the time if I would have gone that direction or realized the FM3 was enough for where I was and am as a player.

Anybody else going to see Adrian and Vai on the BEAT tour? As a huge fan of the Crimson Discipline-era trilogy of albums, I can't wait!
You bet!!
Got 11th row dead center at a relatively small theater. Santander Performing Arts in Reading PA.

First saw KC in June 82’. Then I saw 3 more times of that lineup. Then saw the double trio a couple times in the 90’s.

I don't know how many of you guys know David Brewster's channel but here's his latest lesson.

Very cool lesson. Thanks for posting.

I use to check his channel out a good bit, YouTube has been doing a bad job of recommending my subscribed channels. I lose track of channels.
