AC-DC-like Marshall (with RW IRs)

The tone is really good. You need more attitude playing it; Angus and Malcolm 'attack' the parts instead of just playing them. The reverb isn't 'expansive' enough; that's the only thing really not 'sitting' right at all.

You nailed the tone really well, and the playing is good too.

Good job!

Hey Scott,

you're too kind!
Yes, you are absolutely right - playing is lacking attitude (recording was done in a rush ;-)

I'm using your RW-mixing formula - the credit for the tone goes back to you! :D

I couldnt listen to your track - soundclick doent want to play it.

For what its worth I read an interview in Sound on Sound with Mike Fraser, the producer of rock and roll train. He used SM57s and 421's blended on the guitar cabs. No reverb was used but for Angus solos he used a c414 room mike for depth and a Studer slap delay at 140ms. Guitar tracks were recorded mono - one rhythm guitar track to each side.

As far as I remember I was using a mixed Cab (G12M - R121 mixed with a G12L MD421).
Great idea using a C414 for room - I will try this out!

Thanks for your comments - this forum is just great! :D

So here are the patches and the mixing formulas for the IR's:

For the Plexi Patch I use a stereo cab:
1) Marshall G12M20-Mix:
G12M20 R121 CapEdgeOffAxis-2 0db
G12L MD421 Cone-3 0db
Celestion Blue BackOffCab-0 -25db

2) Marshall G12M25 Mix:
G12M25 R121 CapEdgeOffAxis-2 0db
G12L MD421 Cone-3 0db
Celestion Blue BackOffCab-0 -25db

For the JCM800 Patch I'm using also a stereo cab:
1) Marshall G12M20-Mix: (same as above)
G12M20 R121 CapEdgeOffAxis-2 0db
G12L MD421 Cone-3 0db
Celestion Blue BackOffCab-0 -25db

2) G12M R121 CapEdgeOffAxis-2 0db
G12L MD421 Cone-3 0db

Have fun! ;)

Hey Milkman, thx for the patch and IR mixes! I wasn't able to hear your clip but here's a mix I did based off this quote from sportacus. Works great by itself or mixed with the other IR mixes you came up with. Also changed the delay on your patch to mono then set @140ms for that slapback effect.

Sorry guys - seems that sounclick is "loosing" the file after a while...

I'll try to fix it in the afternoon.
