    FM3 Firmware Version 7.00 beta 3

I hadn't downloaded the previous betas as I had been out of pocket since they came out, so this is my initial exposure, but it's a great feature. The ability to make micro tweaks to mic positions really ups the ceiling on the value of the cab block. Well done!

1965 Fender Strat amazing SOUNDS !

Late to the party on this one, but that is one of the best-sounding Strats I've heard. My guitar teacher when I was a kid had a '65 that looked just like that. Being a stupid kid and knowing little about gear I didn't realize what a gem of an instrument it was. Amazing job!

    Waitlist Email

Yup, I've been a customer for years and have had their products all the way back to the original Axe FX Standard. I just happened to follow my invite link and saw the option to purchase, so I did, but I think it was a case of them updating their system but not invalidating the link which is why...

So did I and they wound up cancelling my order. Shortly thereafter the link was broken. I asked them about it and they said they will be sending new invite email. My guess is that they will be sending in order of the waitlist for anybody how hadn't purchased an FM9 last fall.

  37. M

    FM3 Mkll?

Or they are using more robust CPUs that can handle more load. But CPU resources doesn't mean squat if the algorithms driving it are sub-par. To use a PC as an analogy, a great game running on a 5th gen Intel CPU is still better then a crappy game on a 10th gen CPU (or insert your GPU of choice).

    AX8 Discontinued?

I think the FM3 is the logical 'next step'. There were a lot of people who complained because the AX8 didn't have an expression pedal, but I think the general consensus (and I'm sure there are outliers) is that it 1) reduced the size/cost/points-of-failure of the AX8 and 2) allowed you to...
  57. M

    Know your device...

I've had to do that before (disable amp/cab and plug into front of amp). I will add that, while many edit the AX8 via computer, it's a really good idea to be able to quickly edit the EQ blocks on the fly via the board interface. It really helps when plugging into unknown amps.

    Coming Soon

Do you mean having the 2 units share resources? I think that's an unrealistic expectation, especially since the only medium for transferring data would be midi and, well, that's not exactly a speedy transfer protocol. But, you could certainly use it (or any MFX unit) in the loop of the AxeFX...

No, why should it? They've always had world-class effects in the AxeFX units. And plenty of users utilize these products in conjunction with amps as effects units, but I don't think I've ever heard of anybody using *just* the amp models on the AxeFX and offloading all the effects to other...

    Coming Soon

Isn't there an interview out there somewhere that Cliff mentions it all started because he didn't like the way other hardware units implemented reverb or something along those lines? I might be misremembering, but I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with amp modeling.

    Global cab sim fix

I tried Ross's suggestion last night and it worked very well for me. Now, I was using a Plexi-influenced amp (the Euro Blue) and a Greenback-ish cab (Ownhammer M75), so if you use an amp/cab with a pronounced mid-range, it might be a little overwhelming, but it sure helped with this...

    Front input jack doesn't work?

Do you get any sound (hum, crackle, etc)? If it's not a software issue like the others suggested above, a wire may have jarred loose. Should be a fairly easy fix.
  85. M

    Clipping! UGH!

Ross's suggestion of using a PEQ to block the low freqs will definitely catch any additional 'boominess' you might encounter. My approach is usually to get the amp+cab (+OD if needed) as close to what I want and then add EQ only if I need to... and in many cases the hi-cut/low-cut adjustments...
  86. M

    Clipping! UGH!

Maybe for the models I use reducing the low end on input is sufficient to prevent that low-end from manifesting itself on output. If those freqs are not there for the model to process it would stand to reason that, in many cases, it won't appear on the output.

I've had several Standards and an Ultra or two and have never had a problem either. Strange that a lot of people do... and it's not like they don't know what they're doing. Maybe there's a certain system config or a problem with some of the units from a particular batch. Weird.
  88. M

    Clipping! UGH!

Also, as an alternative to what Ross says (or maybe the first step followed by the PEQ suggestion if needed), you can use the lo-cut parm in the Advanced tab on the amp block. Many of those default to the lowest setting (10hz), but I find that anywhere from 80-120Hz is a good cutoff point for...

Ross - assuming the file itself is good, the firmware version you update to shouldn't matter because it's a kill-and-fill replacement as opposed to an incremental update. It's possible that there's a MIDI setup issue. Sounds like you have the cables correct (MIDI In of Axe to MIDI Out of...
