Please update us here when support gives you an answer. I hope it's really soon. I just told a friend to pull the trigger on buying an AxeFx II that he saw available. He bought it and if he can't get the drivers he is going to be unimpressed....and so am I. This type of thing seems like it...

Quantum or Ares Firmware?

They both are honestly really great. I went to Ares and had to spend a hell of a lot of time tweaking things to get them sounding right. It was certainly worth it....but man was it a lot of adjusting.

Tiger1016, if you go from Quantum to Ares you will need to tweak the amps yes. Not the other blocks that I noticed. The amp block though....you'll be spending some time there possibly.

I use the HS7’s for my home studio. I run a separate interface (Presonus) from the AxeFx and think the HS7’s sound excellent. They are plenty loud for a home studio, though I wouldn’t mind the HS8’s. Live I use the Atomic CLR’s.

Final thoughts on the final firmware now that I've had many weeks to adjust all my presets. It really helped the low end of things. I had to tweak the low end a lot, but it is better than it's ever been. Fewer presets are flubby, and if they are, it's easier to dial it out. Just a tighter and...

I totally understand anyone who makes this decision. I'm still tweaking presets. Ares changed the tone quite a bit and will require some serious time to tweak....especially if you do the old copy x to y and then reset the amp on x method.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the soft reset is the one where it's recommended that you copy x to y in the amp block, then select a different amp, then go back to the original amp, then compare x settings to y settings to make sure your treble, bass, mids, presence, master volume, gain levels...

Thanks guys. It was the tap tempo being different across various presets. Could not for the life of me figure it out. Makes perfect sense now. Had the same issue with a rotary block once and I just gave up trying to figure it out. Now that's fixed too.

I've got a weird delay time issue. I'm using the 2290 w/Mod and if I set it to 1/4 the ms is 500. Works this way on dozens of my presets. I have one preset where if I set it to 1/4 it is 732 ms. I cannot get it to go to 500 ms. Even if I copy the delay block from another preset it won't work. As...

Why Do I Always Struggle With Cabs?

If you are using the low cut feature and things are still boomy sounding something is wrong. There are plenty of ways to dial out boominess with the low cut, GEQ, the cut parameter underneath your bass knob, etc.

Anyone find that they use the same cab, regardless of amp?

Count me in the camp that thinks the cab block has by far the greatest impact on tone. Take an amp that is sounding not so good and try it with different cabs. All of a sudden it can sound incredible once you find the right cab.

The Mark models are indeed tough to dial in. Make sure you use the Mark 5 band EQ in the GEQ page of the amp block and set it to pre and not post. Then, set it to have a significant V shape. Raise the treble and bass up to around 3, 4, or even 5, and really pull the mids down. On the main amp...

The FAS Modern III is my number one amp for metal tones. It is very similar to the Mesa’s, but there is something in the low end that just crushes.

Don’t forget about the Atomic CLR if you consider going the FRFR route. Unreal sound quality. Also, as far as firmwares go, this may literally be the best one. Not sure my AxeFx has ever sounded better.

Anyone find they don’t “need” drive blocks in most cases since getting the AxeII?

Nothing like using a drive pedal to tighten up the low end for single note palm muted riffs. Adds just a little bit of punch. Very subtle, but very effective.

Oh how times are a changin’! People being frustrated about having to lug the AxeFx to a gig. After you’ve dragged full stack Marshall’s to gigs for decades, getting the AxeFx to a gig is no biggie. The easiness of loading/unloading the Ax8 is just unreal.

Getting rid of string noise in quiet bits? (Sample provided)

I'm the same with Ernie Ball strings. They last forever for me. The sound just doesn't change for a really long time. I'm a sucker for their RPS strings. Only broke one in years of using them and I leave them on for quite a while.

Gain difference when switching guitars - How do you do it?

Axe + FRFR users, how are you getting feedback?

What are your input gate settings? Are you using a gate block? These can make feedback tougher (or easier) to achieve depending on how they are set up.

Dimed Real Plexi VS Dimed Simulation [Q8.01]

Does the Brit 800 model have this "squishy rasp" that you mention? That seems like a good way to describe what I hear with that model in the upper registers.

Am I crazy or does increasing motor drive somewhat enhance the mid range a bit? I've noticed that after using the motor drive feature I've had to dial down the mids a tad on some presets. Not a problem at all, just wondering if I'm a loon.

Amp block GEQ

I actually get really good results using the amp blocks GEQ. Any adjustments I make are usually subtle, but the impact can be significant. I typically just stick with the default 8 band Var Q, except on Mesa amps I go with the Mark 5 option. I've not yet found the need to go with a PEQ block.

This is me too. I really struggle setting up the compressors. The changes are indeed subtle sometimes and you just don't know if they are subtly better, or subtly worse. Very difficult thing to set up in my experience. Looking forward to bumbling my way around the new compressor options.
