Forgot to answer you i see. I'm sorry. I only use poweramp sim. If it does not sound good without cabsims, i think you have turn some knobs without those sims.. I get KILLER sounds. Never used cabsims in my cabs. Sounds .... muffy. But thats me. I've recently spent time with Mesa RA-100. The only amp that has interested me for years. But i'll get a Axe II instead. Maybe i'll sell my Ultra later and get a mesa. Just to have a plain amp with a pedalboard at home... Fun
