Did a comparison between my FM3 and a Quad Cortex

We know the FM3 has gotten serious improvements since release. Its been some years, but last I checked the Helix amp algorithms were not upgraded since release. Dont know if this is the case with the QC as well? Knowing that FAS is constantly polishing the amps and fx (that already sound great)...

FM3 Stream of Consciousness (Dream theater) - custom scale harmony

So I finally got around to making a custom scale for the outro section on Stream of Consciousness by Dream Theater. This is a wonderful melodic harmony part, and perhaps the highlight on that album for me. I wanted to see if I could use the pitch block, like JP probably does to play this live...

whammy and volume with one exp pedal

Dont mean to hijack this but...I have an extension of this problem. I use a Mission SP1 expression pedal - which has a toe switch. I configured it to toggle between VOL and WAH. But now I want it to also toggle the PITCH block. Without changing scene or preset. 3 in 1...is it possible? :D...

New Big Wreck EP

Just discovered "Pages" today... and wow! They have released alot these few years, and Im digging the 7 series as well, but Pages was something extra for me. Especially the track Bird of paradise, mixing the 80s synth riff elements was so cool. This band deserves to be touring stadiums of the world!

Poll: Second unit for home use and backup

FM3 is very portable so I keep it at home and bring it with me to rehersal. If you can afford a duplicate setup...good for you. Personally I would just get something cheaper as a backup, a used helix stomp or the new boss ir2 maybe, since it primarily would be sitting on a shelf :-P

Rip X software , anybody any experience

I did some testing on a few dream theater tracks, and it removed far too much of the keyboard tracks with the guitar in all cases (to create backing track). Pretty busy sections so I can see why... But haven't found a way to tweak it so that it moves less of the keys. Anyone fiddled with that stuff?

if its not the exact same amp thats modeled, how are you gonna know if the FM3 lacks smooth and sizzle?

yeah, it depends on your interface and its outputs though. I would use a reamp box between my interface and the input of the FM3 in this scenario

SPDIF output -no more volume knob?

Since fw 6 the level1 knob stopped controlling SPDIF out. Some presets are higher volume than others, so I often need to adjust that when playing at home. Would prefer a physical knob over going into the out block on every new preset, or the SPDIF input volume in the soundcard software. Any way...
