IEM ??

+1 for the Shure 215's. Pretty rugged, just replaced the cable for the first time after 2+ years of gigging and running with them, and the cable was only $25. Of course, multi-driver 'phones will have even better sound quality, but for $90-ish bucks, it's difficult to beat the 215's.

Anyone perfected a "Big Country" sound - MXR129 Pitch transposer effect?

I've actually gotten really, really close I think, certainly enough to fool the masses. But I'm on a much older fw, so when I update to 13 I may have a go at it again and post the result. So why the heck am I posting here? Just showing the BC love :) Btw, a lot of the songs don't use the MXR...

How to reamp within the Axe FX? (with interface and Pro Tools)

Honestly, I just re-amp through S/PDIF. It saves all the hassle and is really easy on Pro Tools. Just route the dry track out via S/PDIF, create a new audio track, set the input to S/PDIF and record enable and you're good to go. I've found that when I used the Axe as the interface, it would...

Axe FX II + Roland VG-99 = Axe FX III

I've been doing that for awhile, but with the VG-8 and 88. I have outputs from a Switchblade switcher going into the back of the Axe to run this setup, and it works brilliantly. I just wish I could get the 8's rackmounted, right now I've got them on shelves which is the best I could rig up. Just...

In order to make PT a 64-bit application, RTAS and TDM have to go. But I'd much rather have 64-bit, so that all my sample VI's can have all the RAM they desire. PT 10 is great. Clip Gain is fantastic. The AAX format is a much better format for a variety of reasons. Remember you can use...

Axe Fx 2 as sampler?

I've got my VG-8 and 88 in Input 2 (I switch between them or mix them with a switcher) and my real guitar in Input 1. That way I can run them parallel or process them however I want. Easy! It's especially cool to layer, say, and acoustic guitar over an electric patch. Nice.

Trs unbalanced vs xlr balanced cables for recording direct.

Seconded. I just run SPDIF out and get no coloration from using mic pre's or having to run unbalanced (on a 002R and an RME Babyface). You have to record at 48k, however, which is not a huge deal but can be mildly annoying if all of your sessions (like mine) are in 44.1. Just gotta make a new...

Just got AxeII... wow, fan noise.

I think we're seeing unit-to-unit variation. I expected mine to be loud, but although I can hear it, it's not very loud at all (certainly nothing compared to the ridiculous roar of my SLA-2 power amp!!). I'm listening in a quiet studio environment. The other guitarist in my band will have one...
