Free Mesa 4X12 Impulse Responses! Give 'em a try :)

It’s oddly funny you are replying to this years and years old post just now. During this time I have been silently, and obsessively, perfecting my IR capture method. I’m soon gonna put out something I’m incredibly proud of, I hope you’ll like it!

Clean ambient piece with my Kiesel CT7

Hi there guys! Here's a little piece I wrote these days, it's called "Venus". I'm using a patch with compressor, into Fryette D60L amp model, into cab #131. After that, reverb, delay and enhancer blocks. Hope ya dig it!

Does your choice of pickups really matter?

The Axe-Fx will make anything sound good, so even sub par pickups will be just fine with the right amp-cab-settings combination. That being said, of course pickups matter, but less than the Axe-Fx FOR SURE

FX before or after the cab block?

That's true if the effect is very unique sounding, and not replaceable by a plugin or an "after the fact" effect. But if it's something pretty standard, I've always noticed others (and always opted myself) doing it afterwards. After all, the only way to really nail the amount of delay/reverb...

FX before or after the cab block?

Yea I meant guitar cab IR, not IRs in a broader way (reverbs etc). Weird, in my experience I've always found little differences in putting fx before and after, and always preferred the sound after, even if the difference was minimal. I'll experiment more with Quantum!

FX before or after the cab block?

Additionally, on professional recordings reverb/delay are always added after the fact with plugins, to better follow the song tempo, so after amp+cab is pretty standard procedure

FX before or after the cab block?

Reverb and delay always after cab - these fx are meant to give more air and space, but if they go into a cab IR (which is basically an EQ curve that removes highs and lows and focuses more on mids) they won't shine at their full potential. Regarding other "less creative" fx, if I use...

Reamping - still one track at a time?

I do reamp two separate tracks in real time with the Axe-Fx II and I can also manage to reamp while listening to the entire mix - it's quite tricky to explain the process, I might do a proper Youtube video in due time.

Epic Lead idea with Carvin CS4 and Axe-Fx II

Sure there you go, here you find preset + TAB: http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5864881/Francesco%20Filigoi%20-%20Epic%20Intro%20TAB%20and%20PRESET.zip Some guys I sent this told me the preset sounded muted with their FW19 - I did this on a previous firmware but hopefully should translate...

Epic Lead idea with Carvin CS4 and Axe-Fx II

Just using stock Carvin pickups, I dig 'em a lot! Don't think they matter that much though, hands and Axe-Fx are way more important factors imho

Epic Lead idea with Carvin CS4 and Axe-Fx II

Noodling around this "Epic Intro" idea, this is the chain I'm using: Compressor->OD->Herbie Ch.3->Marshall TV 4x12 cab, all of this into parallel delay and reverb. Hope you dig it guys :)
