I agree completely about Atomic. I have a CLR Neo Mk II. Great product! But if it dies and you have to deal with getting it serviced, you come dangerously close to wishing you’d never bought it anyway.

Hmm, interesting thread I never saw! I think “Flippin’ the Switch” is for the Ace Frehley/Randy Rhoads technique of flipping a Les Paul’s selector switch with one pickup turned down—a stutter effect. Are we sure “Year of the City 2274” isn’t for playing the theme from Blade Runner? “East Wes” is...

I don’t even have an Axe III, but I just want to say it’s inspiring to see that Cliff Chase finds his work so personally rewarding. I love to hear when he gets super excited about a new algorithm or firmware.

Axe Fx II Final Update - Breaking News!

As long as Ares 1.00 is as bug-free as possible, I can coast on that forever—I can’t imagine asking for more. FAS’ ongoing support for this thing reminds me of nothing more than the vaunted Kurzweil K2000.

what do you guys use for a lead/solo boost?

Me, I like using a filter block (At the very end of the chain) with a mid hump around 1750 Hz and a Q of about .5. The boost of that mid hump has a scene controller; +4.5 dB for the guitar solo scene, 0 for the other scenes. There’s also a 1000 ms damping on there, so stepping on the scene...

What is your go-to amp for building hard rock/metal patches?

One thing I’ve been doing lately is two amps: an FAS Modern or a Friedman 2018 C45 with a scooped sound, and then a Tucana with a mid hump. These join up to make a nice, broad-spectrum high gain sound that has a lot of impact, yet can sing and articulate well for leads. These can go into one IR...

Me, I can’t believe the Tucana. I have a little hobby where I try to find a better amp (for my ears, fingers, and guitar) than the Tucana, or mix the Tucana with another amp. Nothin’ so far!

AXE FX II all done with updates??

Myself, I’m sticking with 9.04 for now—not because of any sound-related reason, but because I have a critical festival season coming up and I know 9.04 is mature. If all known bugs are squashed, I’ll move to Ares and then we can call it a day for the II. My 2¢

Fractal Audio AMP models: CA Tucana (Carol-Ann Tucana 3)
