Axe-Fx input issues with Shure Wireless

My current system is a Shure GLX-D6+ receiver into my Axe fx III Mk2. I'm using a single mono cable to the front instrument socket. The transmitter is a Shure GLX-D1+. and that system has all worked fine for the last couple of year. My problem is I have just bought the Shure GLX-D4R+ rack receiver and swapped out the GLX-D6+ and now it overloads the input, to the extent that clean sounds are breaking up and everything is just louder. I'm using the instrument output jack from the 4R+ and not the XLR (which I think is correct).

These are the steps I've taken so far:
1. Made sure that the 4R+ is set to -18Db (which is the lowest it will go), As far as I can tell there is no adjustment possible on the transmitter side.
3. Changed the cable.
4. Moved the cable to the rear instrument jack input on the Axe.
5. Reduced the input sensitivity (was at 6.8% for my main guitar) to 0%
6. There is a line/mic switch on the back but that relates to the XLR connector. I could try this, but I would prefer to use the normal jack connectors rather than an XLR.

The input is still coming in way too hot in comparison to my original 6+.
Is anyone using the latest Shure rack GLX-DR4+ receiver? Any suggestions as to what might be wrong would be appreciated - thanks in advance.

I have the latest Shure GLX DR4+ in my rack. As you noted, you have to set its output level to -18 dB. On the Shure web site (but oddly not in the manual) they state that is the unity gain setting which emulates a cable. I have no idea why it doesn't just default to that. I'm plugged into the rear of the AxeFX III and it's perfect.

I've set it to the -18db but the signal output is still way higher than the 6+ floor style unit and as mentioned it overloads all my patches, turning clean tones into almost crunch. Just trying to find out if its a potentially faulty unit or there's some setting on the Axe FX that I've missed. Reducing Input sensitivity didn't solve it.

Thanks for the reply though, it sound like it should work, so perhaps I'll go create a new clean patch and see what happens. Anything else I should set? I've been using Axe FX for around 10 years so I'm pretty familiar with most settings, but its possible during setup I just did the basics and its always worked OK.

Quick question. You have your output from the wireless into the rear of the Axe FX input 1. If you plug a cable into the front of the Axe FX and connect your guitar is there a noticeable drop in volume compared to the wireless? There is on mine, which means that I would need to dial up the output to the PA if I ever switched to a cable, which seems odd

I have found with wireless systems, the sensetivity threshold (sennheiser) ont the transmitter had to be set to -33. not familar with shure anymore. havnt used one in decades.Check the instrument input on the axe.. may need to turn that down as well

On the I/O page of the AX3, what are your settings for Input 1 / Instrument, AND Input 1 Gain? (all the way on the right side of the screen)

I'll give this a try at our next tech rehearsal.

On my ew G4 I have to set it to about -38 / -42...!

Have you tried turning the input trim (In the Amp Block) down?
I can see that would work - thanks, was unaware of that. However I have 40+ patches (some for my own fun use and a bunch of stuff for live). Also I think I would need a further set of patches for the times when I have to use a cable or alternatively work out where the output needs to be to balance the loudness between the cable and wireless modes. I've contacted Shure but I'm not certain there's a solution from their end. The GLXD6+ is the same volume as using a cable, rack unit isn't, unsure if that's something they could ultimately fix.

I have come up with a temporary solution which is to put a simple adjustable attenuator between the output of the Shure receiver and the Axe FX input 1 on the rear. I've then switched between the wireless system and a standard wired cable on the front of the unit and adjusted the attenuator until the volumes match. It has definitely stopped the cleans breaking up. In my headphones I can't tell the difference between any of my sounds wireless or wired. Hopefully when I go through the PA I won't notice any change to my patch sounds with the attenuator in place either.
