High Cut on 6k is crazy?

I have an AKG k52 headphones, and the super high frequencies are very presents. With fractal the sound starts improve when I set high cut for 6khz.

is this too much? Should I be more conservative and stick to 8kHz and ignore those AKG frequencies?

The tone control capacitor in your guitar makes a big difference too. Typical caps are .022 or .047. Sometimes listed as 223 or 473 caps. The .022 caps make the guitar much brighter.

I use dyna cabs and dial in the highs and lows with mic position. I will high cut in the cab block around 14-15kHz to stay out of the cymbals but there is not that much info that high up anyway.

It's also a slope that STARTS at the selected frequency, which will give a gentle rolloff. Also, there actually isn't a ton of useful information way up above 10k. It's just air up there for the most part, and your speaker doesn't do a very good job of reproducing those frequencies (unless your amp has a tweeter), being a giant paper cone. Anyway, the point being, don't worry about the numbers. Just dial it to where it sounds good (ears vs eyes). Cheers!

I run 0 cuts and dont add eq blocks or use the input eq or amp block graphic eq etc. right amp and IR for the task.

If I cant nail it with the reg amp controls and IR, im not using the right tools for the job. Fine tuning after is fine but i barely do that either haha.

Yeah, not crazy at all, depends on the sound, i used a 7k lowpass filter on my headrush presets cause it sounded ultra harsh without it, i don't need to do it with my FM3 presets now, but those are my presets, maybe urs need them, if it sounds good, it sounds good

If you’re just playing at home through headphones this is fine. If you’re building presets for live use you’ll want headphones with a flatter response.

Josh Middleton has a great video about how our ears are sensitive to 6k, so the unpleasant high end doesn’t disappear until you roll the high cut back far enough to eliminate it.

But this kills a lot of brilliance in your tone.

So he makes a sharp cut at 6k, with a very narrow Q, and leaves the rest. Sometimes even boosting 7k and upwards with a shelf.

Works great for me, but in addition to that, I will high cut around 8-9k.
